sparetime
A few of us are considering a 4 day trip in early January and hope to catch some walleye. Lake of the Woods, Mille Lacs are the obvious choices. Any other suggestions? We will be fishing out of portables and have 4-wheelers to get us around. I just hate getting into a rut of going the same place every year. Asking a question such as this will sometimes open up an Idea that would never have occured to me otherwise. jigging-matt
I'm not sure if you are looking at staying in Mn or not but at least once a year a buddy and I head over to SD and fish Waubay and the surrounding lakes. Walleye and Perch are great. Just a little something different.
harvey lee
I would agree with URL if you are looking for a multi-specie trip. With the eyes, crappies and northerns in there,I would think it would be great.

deadminnowcatcher
Hands down--- Waubay SD--- At night if you want to sleep you will have to bring up the rattle reels. Otherwise plan on getting up every halve hour with another pesky walleye. The limit is 2 a day on the eyes and I have always caught a limit. Sometimes hundreds. The perch are huge and if you are willing to move to find them they are a blast when you are on them. You also have the option of alot of other lakes to get into bigger eyes and huge crappies. The area has it all.. sounds like i am with the chamber of commerce but i am not I am from mn and would drive there any day to fish over anything MN has to offer. Try it once and you will be hooked
Tim O
How about Jessie,Bowstring ,Sand area.Good fishing on smaller lakes with not near as many people as the other places.Still close enough to Winni,Red for day trips.Check out the link below. Jeff Dosch
Have you thought about Devils Lake? Walleye and Northern numbers are the highest they have ever been, and of course the Jumbo Perch. Throw in the chance you might get in on some great crappie action and you probable have the best multi species lake in the country. The nice thing about Devils Lake is that you can find all four species in the flooded timber. Just something to think about!Jeff Dosch Doschs Guide Service

iffwalleyes
Lake of the Woods man. All the other lakes mentioned are good too. But for me there is just something about Lake of The Woods in the winter.
