Cooter
Has anyone used the HS dryer sheets or similar. I always hate to wash clothes in scent killer then toss them in a dryer that probably had some mountain fresh scented dryer sheets in it the load before. I limit dryer time as much as possible, but its a necessary evil most times. Any thoughts/ideas?
Bobb-o
the fresh earth dryer sheets seem to work pretty well. I always do an empty load with just the dryer sheet before i put my hunting clothes in there to hopefully get rid of any secnt that is in there beforehand. irvingdog
I Handwash several towels in clean water, then throw them in the dryer sopping wet. Kinda mops out the inside of the dryer. Then I use the HS sheets, then hang outside, THEN place in a clean bag with leaf litter.
FarByondDrivn
I also use the H.S dryer sheets and think they work pretty good. I had the same concern about lingering smells from other clothes. So now, in addition to the dryer sheets, I too hang my clothes outside and use the H.S scent wafers when I store them awa y. harvey lee
After my clothes come out of the dryer they will hang for 3 days or so outside and then I cover them with leaves in a bag.
Cooter
I wonder about putting a scent wafer in the dryer....Just not a rut flavored one - don't think my next date would appreciate that much, if she did though, she'd be the one Those dryer sheets are about, what, 10 for $5. Am assuming you can get multiple uses out of them? I usually hang clothes outside for a couple days, but you have those times when your bud shoots a deer and you get all sweated up and you and your clothes stink and you want to hunt that night or the next day...A separate dryer, just a cheap used one, might be an option. harvey lee
I just wear a different set of clothes if I sweat one up real bad.Costs more but you are always ready.
bigbucks
Ditto, I have 4-5 camo T shirts & probably 3 more long sleeve T's. I also have a couple of pairs of pants. I usually have dropped enough layers before starting to trail or drag or whatever that it's only the bottom layers that are a problem. It's pretty easy to throw another pair of pants & shirt into the truck & just change before going tracking as well. I've just kind of compiled them over time. Oh there's a cheap shirt on sale, pick up another one kind of thing.
Kodiak
what do you do about your SUV when you haul dogs in it for duck hunting? I just started wondering that while i was reading this, i keep my portable and speed sticks and everything back there when i go out hunting. SCUMFROG
What about those scent locker clothes. Don't those mask your scent well enough?
Bobb-o
never tried the scent locker. but the X-scent is amazing stuff and wont break the bank. There clothing is made with silver fibers so it never has to be recharged like scent-lock. They challenge anyone to test out their clothing by buying a pair of their socks and wearing them for 5 days straight without washing them if there is any smell o them at the end of those 5 days they will refund your money. I did this for 6 days, wore them while hunting, at work (I work at a Deli, lot of standing and running around), even working out, and there was absolutely no scent that i could detect. Cooter
I haven't been able to work scent lok/block clothing into my budget...yet.
Studer
I have a bunch of old Army Woodland Camo that I use and it is good camo. It is not realtree hardwoods by any means but it does break up your outline. I think if I used those dryer sheets in my dryer, I would be sleeping in the garage (I guess that would be ok) But I do have a big plastic rubbermaid bin that I store all of my hunting gear in and pin a couple earth scent wafers to the top and botton clothes in the bin. I also have a scent lock suit that seems to work nice but I think if you use the wind to your advantage it doesn't matter what you smell like. sachem longrifle
I get a kick out of these modern marvels that is supposed to hide your scent. i shoot a deer every year on my property with a traditional kentucky muzzleloader rifle shooting prb and real black powder. It requires me to get close. I use no cover scent but i watch the wind. the farthest buck I shot was 40 yards away. I was on the ground and he didnt even notice me till I was careless on pulling back the lock. It was too late. No cover scent will help you if you do not watch the wind
Rip_Some_Lip
Do you guys wash your carbon suit in the washer or by hand? I have one that the liner comes out so you do not have to wash it with the camo. My question is should I wash the carbon liner or just throw it in the dryer to reactivate it? Does washing it hurt it? Thanks
FarByondDrivn
Don't own a carbon suit but from what I understand it is best to just dryer activate them.
96trigger
RSL, I own a scentlock suit, I wash it on the gentle cycle using scent free soap from HS. I then let it air dry, its H2O wear so its supposed to be water proof. Once its dry or fairl dry, I throw it in the dryer to activate the carbon. I know that there is a lot of criticism out there about the suits, but if you have one, you know that it works well.
