grizzald
I was mowing lawn yesterday and the frogs were jumping everywhere. I was thinking about going and catching a bunch of them and freezing them up and trying them this winter jigging for walleyes. Has anybody ever tried this?? tonyjor
I don't know about walleyes but I would assume it would work for northerns. Just put a 1/2 oz. jig through it and jig away. Last winter I caught two norts with frogs in their stomachs. You might want to "loosen" them up so the legs move while jigging. If they go through rigormortis like most animals, the should loosen up with a little "coaxing".
fisherking01
We have caught many pike with frogs in them, and have used frogs (live) in the winter. Out of several trips using frogs and shiners, the shiners won hands down with only one pike taking a frog. More than 50 taking shiners, we will not go through the effort of catching and using frogs in the winter. The next month is the time to use frogs. Sand and mud shorelines in the evenings can be great using frogs. Multi species can be expected. It gets best when the frogs start heading for the water as air temps get near freezing.
