mplspug
I've used bullheads for flathead catfish, so I am wondering if anyone has tried smaller ones for bass? When I was young we caught a ton of bass when my sister-in-laws dad took me out fishing. We caught them on just about every cast throwing anything at them. We kept a few and when we gutted them, we found them full of little bullheads. A school of bass must have wrangled them up near shore and that's why they were on a feeding frenzy. So my question is if anyone has tried using them as bait?
buzzin for bass
I haven't tried bullheads, but I have tried to immitate them with artificials and have caught good numbers of large bass that way. In fact with several of the bass I've caught that way you could see the tail of the last bullhead the bass ate sticking out of its gullet.

BSMN1
Yep....my bass'n buddy took a 20+" hawg last week and upon unhooking noticed the tail of a half digested bullhead. I'd want to be sure to caution those that if they used bullheads they had better be dead or you might have trouble with the DNR.

Just ask those cat guys.

From what I hear, I am going to have to give it a shot. I am sure my bait guy will be happy to sell the little ones to me. I'll let you know if it works. Ray Esboldt
One plastics option might be trying the 6" BullDawg lure from Musky Innovations. This bait really looks like a bullhead coming through the water.
grab the net
My biggest fish also had what appeard to be the tail of probably an eight inch bullhead stickignout of its gullet. I have cleaned severl walleyes with small bullheads in their stomachs.I saw pike slashing through those small bullhead clusters in june one time. I like a black 4 inch fat twister tail grub, texa rigged when I think they are on a bullhead bite
