blue_healer_guy
Don't want to start anything here, he's a good manager and a nice win tonite at cleveland. Buuuuttt, Yesterday he had Mauer and whoever not playing in left. Raabe will not play in the playoffs if they make it, so why play him? That's 2 spots out of 9 he basically gave up outs for. Tyner dh'd, play him in left or Lew and give Nevin or White a shot at DH. His record and such with giving players a chance to play is great, but not with 17 games left and the Al's leading hitter not playing. For you guys that are regulars here know how I feel about giving Joe day's off.
Jim Almquist
I feel the same but I think it is Gardys way of giving players a rest knowing if the game where to get out of hand he could always call them off the bench. They will only get monday off before the playoffs so get them the rest when they can. Willy
I know what you're saying, but what's wrong with giving guys a day off every once in a while. Especially when they might be needed for the playoffs. Also, Gardy has worked this way for as long as he has been manager. I have been very frustrated at times too, because almost no matter what, Gardy will put the B lineup in for day games.
nofishfisherman
Lets not harp on a manager that pulled a bunch of AAA players together mixed them with a couple of under achieving players from last year and turned them into a playoff contender. If you saw this lineup back in April and were told that this is the lineup we were going to be using going through september we all would have thought we would be 15-20 games out by now. But some how Gardy has us 1 game out from the division lead and a 2 game wild card lead. Can we all say MANAGER OF THE YEAR!!!
Willy
Quote:Can we all say MANAGER OF THE YEAR!!! Agreed! If the Twins win the division, I don't see how anyone else in the AL can get it. To take this team from where they were to where they are is special and a great managing job any way you slice it.
genegodawa
You guys just know that Windy will be tootin' Ozzie for Mgr and Kenny Williams for GM of the yr IF (the BIG if) the WSox steal back into the playoffs...
nofishfisherman
No way Ozzie gets manager of the year. They are defending champs that went out and beefed up their lineup in the offseason. If anything they have been underachieving this year. Also how can a nut job like Ozzie get the award. Two many crazy rants from him this year about telling his pitchers to hit batters. Thats not good managemnet stuff to be doing. One day Ozzie will run himself right out of a job with is attitude and temper. You can't do some of the stuff he does without alienating some of your players. It works while you are winning but if they have a down year and he pulls that garbage he will lose the team. buzzsaw
Ozzie has zero chance of winning it... zero.
rundrave
Ozzie greatest call of the year as a manger: Delmon Young (AAA guy that threw the bat at the ump, got suspsended forever) got called up to the big leagues. His first MLB at bat was against the sox, Ozzie officially welcomes him to the big leagues and has him intentionally hit by the pitcher. Youngs next at bat was a homer and goes on to hit .727 vs the white sox for that series. Smooth move ozzie! good to see that bean ball baseball is paying off for you. Im all for respect and playing it 'old school' that ozzie praises so much about, but it can come back to bite too.
buzzsaw
Especially considering the key injuries we have gone through... I mean Shannon Stewart all year basically, Torri Hunter for a while, Liriano for what will end up being about two months, Radke and there are probably more, but these are important players..... I'm sure they'll give the award to Torre cuz his payroll is always so low and then follow it up with jeter getting the MVP because his batting average is 15 points higher than Morneau's and he's knocked in 50 fewer runs and has 30 fewer HR's... eyepatrol
I'd have to agree with those that feel it's a good idea to rest the players from time to time. Most important thing about sitting players like this out, is the timing. What game to do it and against which team. I don't think you'd want to sit players out when we're playing the 'Sox or Yanks. As for manager of the year....I think whoever wins the central will get it, WITH THE EXCEPTION of Ozzie. No way in heck should he be a candidate. IMO, it comes down to Gardy and Leland. Leland I think would be a good candidate, taking a last place team to first, if that's how it ends up after the regular season is over. For the Twins though....small payroll, a bunch of underachivers, nobody gave them a chance all year long (and some sports analysts still aren't giving them a chance), key injuries for extended periods of time...you name it we've been though it. Eric Wettschreck
Ya have to rest guys from time to time. How many of us would want to work everyday without a break? Granted they make a bunch of $$$ but 162 games wears a body out and Gardy needs em good to go for October. When the rubber hits the road who cares about the batting title? It's more important for the team to win the division than it is for 1 player to win a title. That type of thinking is why the Twins are winners. blue_healer_guy
I understand the day off thing guys, but Rabbe in left. As stated, he is a great manager. He had 3 other options. I guess I felt bad for Garza, who pitched his tail off. Every move he makes can be 2nd guessed from now on, thats the fun part. I think in football they call it "arm chair QB"
