sicheneder
i was out fishing in the chisago area on monday. i thought that the fishing was real tough. the deep rock bite was not very good with only small fish and they where not schooled to good. that was also the chase on sunday on tonka. it seemed like the cooler weather at night has moved the deeper rock fish. just a week ago they fish were bigger and schooled up tight. anybody else notice any changes? TurnUpTheFishing
Ive found with the cooler water temps more fish (and not just small ones) have moved back to shallows.
Jig Master
I fished the st. jude tourney last friday, saturday on Tonka and both days we fished 90% deep rock piles. It seems to be like you're saying, although in the two days I saw 4 big fish come deep (3-4.5 lbs.) it was a one here, one there type of deal, and if we ever got on a school, most of them were small. I think the dock guys did real well. John Wicht won it.
Matt Johnson
Pretty much all I've been targeting lately are docks. I've found that the school of fish is out deeper, but I've done much better on larger fish in the shallows. Pencil reeds have also been good as long as it's not up in a foot of water... Mr. Pike1
I am a dock junkie. I believe there are always fish in the shallows and I find many times it is the large loners.Today I was out and it was tough bite. I waited for the storms to pass through in the morning and hit it for about 6 hours. I only 10 fish and they were smaller then average.
FishinChad
I would say the fish have definatly moved shallower with the cooler weather, the last week has been the best of the year for me, I have hit the lake 6 out of 7 day this last week with great success each day. Every day I got at least 1 over 4lbs, biggest of the week was 6lbs. All fish very shallow and in weed pockets at sunset. Blue/dark purple powerbait. Highlight of the week would be a double with a buddy, both fish over 4 last thursday.Good Luck.
bassNspear
Mr. Pike. I agree with you 100%. I am a huge huge dock fisherman. And i believe that you are always going to be able to find fish under docks and any given time of the year. Just have to fish the right docks. Mr. Pike1
Bass N Spear. Your are correct the type of dock can make a differnce. I personally like a wooden dock, maybe some pads on either side, deep water just outside of the dock and toss a senko or tube on the shady side, skip it under, or pound a few posts. It this dock I have discribed also has a nice big pontoon to cast a shadow and provide some cover even better.Oh geez I am getting excited just thinking about this...I am half tempted to run to the little lake by my house and get a few precious hours on the water...
