nofishfisherman
Ok quick question... i am heading to St. Croix State Park tonight for a camping trip. I will be fishing from shore on Saturday, the plan is to hike up and down shore a ways if possible. It looks like clouds and scattered showers are the weather of the day. If I am targeting smallies what is my best bet to get a few? Anything I should be targeting in particular or baits I should be using. I have a decent collection but am short on plastics I have twister tails and shad. I should say i don't target smallies or really bass much at all so I am a relative newbie to this style. I leave tonight so quick advice is appreciated.
grab the net
If yoiu have any type of topwater baits, a small buzzbait, a skitter pop (rapala brand) or floating rapala, I would start with that. If the water is as low as other rivers, I would look for rocks that are braking the current and fish around those. Cloudy conditions maek for great topwater action. Otherwise I would throw a senko style bait, texas rigged or wacky rigged, ( use a # 1 or 2 walleye style hook and hook the worm right through the middle and toss it out by those same rocks and let it sink) Watch the line for a jump or movement and set the hook. No need to work this bait just let it sink. Good luck those two techniques should get you a fish or two if any are around.

I will give them a shot. Thanks for the info.
