huntingislife
I heard somewhere that the only difference between the mercury 40, 50, and 60 was the carbs. So I have a 1995 40, can I just upgrade the carbs to make it a 60?

0 PierBridge
My 60hp Evinrude tiller was upgraded to a 70hp...bigger carbs was the only change......In your case I would consult with an expert "Mercury Master Mechanic" before attempting anything..... Probably not worth it....Good Luck, let us know what you find out......
0 huntingislife
Just talked to a mechanic and mine won't work because it is a 4 cyl. The 3 cyl would have easily worked though. Darn
0 PerchJerker
This question comes up a lot. If you want to spend money on your motor to get a worse running motor with no more power, go for it. If you want more horsepower, buy a bigger outboard. Everyone I know that has done this "upgrade" has regretted it.
