Hi. My name is Blaze, and I'm an fm-aholic.

I first experimented with fishingminnesota.com 4 years ago while getting ready for fishing opener. It started innocent enough - looking for info on Mille Lacs walleyes, and I stumbled across a bunch of juicy info on more lakes than I realized. Later that week I ended up browsing multiple postings from experienced fisherman and novices alike, which led to my first real "fishing report binge". Satisfying, thrilling, and feeling a bit naughty with all my newly acquired knowledge, little did I know how much this would change my life.

Within a couple more weeks, I'd be checking reports and equipment reviews before bed. Then, it became early mornings before work. Next thing I know, my lunch breaks were being spent at my desk, munching bacon cheeseburgers while checking first ice predictions and learning about target separation on Vexs and Marcums. With ketchup on my fingers, I added my first post. I was hooked. 5 minute "smoke breaks" at work became my time to get an "fm fix". Soon, I wasn't eating or sleeping - just clicking the "FREE Things ONLY" classifieds, hoping to be the first to nab a great treasure like a baby blue golf bag from 1978, complete with cracked whiffle balls and mouse [PoorWordUsage] in the bottom. My wife tried to intervene one night when I yelled at my kids for calling me "Dad" - I screamed "MY HANDLE IS BLAZE, DANG IT! BLAZE! YOU UNDERSTAND ME?"

It was getting ugly.

I considered Rick one of my best friends even though we've never met, and Hanson's classic Arctic Cat rants would make me cry. Then I discovered there were Pheasant Hunting and Hunting Dog sections to the site...it has been all downhill since then.

Hi. My name is Blaze, and I'm an fm-aholic.

Sometimes it's best to just feed the addiction.

Hi, my name is Ely Lake Expert and I am also a fmaholic. I have truely been here since february of 2001. (my first screen name quit working, so I had to start over) Anyway, I don't know what I would do without this site. It expanded my horizons from 3 lakes to hundreds. Plus I can talk about sports and hunting with lots of other people who are really as enthused as I am. woohoo YAY Thanks FM and the creator of it all, Rick. grin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gifshocked.gifooo.giftongue.gifgrin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gifgrin.gif

I,m Iceseeker and a FM-aholic. To make matters more complicated I have informed some of my friends of the web site. Does this mean I am a source of this habit as well? What a great problem to have. maybe we should have a group counselling session!!!

Take care and good luck,

Iceseeker

Hi My name is Bobby Bass and I to am a FM-Aholic. Bobby is not my real name. I can't tell you my real name as then it would get out as to how much time I spend on the FM site. I am addicted so bad that I create my own little world here on FM call Lake Iwanttobethere where fishing is always good the weather is fine and there are big shiners waiting at the bait shop any time of the day or night. If I am not on here looking for fishing stories I am attending a local meeting at one of a dozen lakes that I spend so much time on the locals think I live there. If I am not fishing then I am here reading about fishing.. Or writing about something relating to fishing. Work is just something that gets in my way. FM is the home page on my computer. It is quicker to post me a note on FM then to call me on the phone. My friends call me Bobby when they want to get my attention. I know it all started the first time I found the site. Some people drink coffee and smoke I pull up the FM site. My wife just walks by the den and sees the familiar page of the FM site and knows that I am not searching for women on the net. She tells my mother-in-law that I am having an affair. I showed my mother-in-law the new lawn string and now she checks it daily. She is getting close to signing on, I think she is hooked.. My wife does not know what I have done to her mother. Yes I am a FM-Aholic all I can say is I know that I am not alone.....

(everyone in unison ) Hi Blaze!...Hi Bobby!

Hi my name is fishin5 and I too am a Fm-aholic.

The first time I noticed I had a problem is when I spent hours looking for a fishin report for the fishin pier at the local pond I take my kids to. There wasn't one so I told em we couldn't go fishing there, but there was a good night walleye bite on Mille Lacs, and that the Upper Red still has crappies......I went on for about 5 more min. before they started crying to mom " why can't daddy drink like the other daddies?"

I've been off FM for 1 week and....ooooppps!

Hi My name is Fishin5........

I think I might also be an FM addict. I think I realized it just now as I sit in an internet cafe in a small town south of Madrid Spain on my vacation. I was here to email family and I couldn´t help but check out FM and see what I have been missing while I am out of the country.

I still have another week to go before I can get my normal fix of FM again. I hope I make it.

I can´t wait to get home to the normal temps again, enough of this 100-110 degree stuff we have had over here.

So does that make all of us who read the forum for years and didn't sign up because they didn't want anybody to read

about them an fm-aholic. Just look at all the anony users

sometime and tell me they aren't hiding something...

I am as well addicted. I check the site many many times a day awaiting something new to read. I have cut back my habit since open-water. The real fishing in my opinion lies under the ice. I also check the forum more come Ice season, I usually check the site atleast 10 times a day at work, but do not post to often.

By the way..... rehab is for quitters grin.gif

Bobby - real or not, I understand your addiction. Thanks for sharing.

Iceseeker - if you've spread the problem, that's OK - don't beat yourself up about it. Rick can always add another webserver.

nofishfisherman - Se habla Fishing Minnesota?

Good, guys. This is good. The first step in overcoming your problem is to admit you have one. I'm proud of you guys. We're making progress here.

Our next step in overcoming such behavioral patterns as ours is to identify WHY we have them. After much self examination, I can look back and remember the very day I went fishing with my friend, Derek. I was 6 years old and we fished the river behind my house and each caught a fish or two or twenty. At the end of the day, his big northern was much larger than anything I had on my stringer. As a result, I now realize I have spent years trying to cope with a tragic case of PIKE ENVY that started at age 6. Perhaps you struggle with size issues as well? It often leads to overcompensating with fancy boats, multiple electronic gadgets, and expensize fishing rods. I also realize that my friend outfished me 2:1 that day, and it seems that I never feel good about myself unless I can keep up with (or beat) my fishing partner out on the water. Does this resonate with you as well? These deep flaws in my self image have caused me to seek out extensive fishing knowledge here on FM so that I may never suffer from PIKE ENVY, size inadequacy, or insufficient numbers again...and FM has actually helped!

Take comfort, fellow FMAs (FM-Aholics). We are in good hands in both hard water and soft water seasons, along with great hunting resources in both the spring and fall to help bridge from one season to the next. So my encouragement to you today is Browse On! Read, ponder, and learn, so you never have to be the butt of the jokes back at base camp again!

Your certified FM-aholic counselor,

Blaze

Hi everyone, My name is SpecialK and I am a FMA. I think I should have realized this while I was at the Panfish Plastics seminar, being taught by Matt, and I stood up and yelled "Hallelujah Matt, Preach the truth brother!" but I was the only one standing, holding my Exude brochure like the Bible.

I am on the site constantly hitting the refresh button to make sure I don't miss a new post with more information about the metro lakes or shorefishing. I pout like a small boy whose dog has just passed away when there is nothing new to read. The only time I am not checking the site is when I am on the water and I figure that will change when the new Hummingbird x100000x comes out with GPS, Satelite photo and wireless internet unit comes out.

I am sure I will read the reviews of it on here first....

Maybe they schould do something like "surf responcibly" or "Enjoy in Moderation" on each page. It is crazy how addicted I can get on this stuff. I'm glad I can't get drunk off this stuff becasue my liver would be dead already. Hi, I'm LittleBroD and you had me at my first post. smile.gif

Blaze and everyone else we just want to let you know that we have a small room off to the side here at the Lodge at Lake Iwantobethere that can be used for FM-Aholic meetings. It's nothing real big but the walls can be rolled back for access to the entire main lodge room if needed. It is tastefully decorated with wild flowers and needlepoint. I feel this would be the right place to hold meeting if needed. It does come with a side bar and a trolley to the kitchen.

Hi my name is Bad Catcher. I'm coming out of the annony closet and want to state that I don't want to have a problem, but I think that I may progress to that. I think that it isn't an addiction as much as it is our morning, afternoon, and evening coffee. I had stumbled on this site to find some lake info, and now I haven't been off of it in a month. I think that it is you guys that are making me have the problem. That's it! You are making me have an addiction!
