Lund Pro/V downrigger?

Mueller

Question

I have a 2004 1775 Pro-V. Is the plywood underneath the gunnels strong enough for downriggers to be mounted or should I shore up underneath with a metal plate?

Thanks

Mueller

How long of a boom are you going to use and what weight ball? If you're using a 2' boom and an 8lb or lighter ball (i.e. setting up to troll shallow) then you'll be fine. If you're looking at running a 5' boom with an 8lb and heavier ball then I would look at using a metal plate or install some anodized track up top for mounting the downriggers too (that way you can easily remove it and install rod holders when not using the downriggers). I have an 18' Lund Fisherman that I've installed Bert's Custom Tackle track on and have my downriggers mounted on Bert's downrigger mounts. Works well but I also added a cross support piece underneath the gunwale to keep the top of the gunwale from flexing (not an issue when running, but could be if I got a hangup).
