Impeller Installation Question

Fishook

Question

In the process of installing an impeller kit on a 1987 Bayliner/OMC Cobra I/O. The Cobra manual states to use a Marine Grade Gasket Sealer. Been told could use an automotive grade RTV gasket sealer, the type used in automotive water pumps. Will the RTV sealer work or should I stick with the Marine Grade sealer? If the Marine Grade sealer is required, where do I get it? Can not find it at any dealers in our area (NE Iowa). I am submitting this for a friend but hope someone might help. If more information is needed, let me know.

I have same outdrive, you don't need any marine sealer, if you cannot get the gasket for it regular Blue RV sealant will work. Marine grade is resistant to salt water, only salt we have here is wintertime and I seriously doubt you'll drive down interstate with the boat.... wink.gif

Be sure he knows how to check and fill lower unit oil....

Thanks, Valv. I passed this information on and also your phone number from your HSOforum. My friend was a bit confused by what you meant regarding the lower unit. You may receive a call from him or if you care to expand here, I will pass the information on. Appreciate your help and knowledge.
