Velcro might but you always stand a chance of it dropping or falling while driving the boat.I know that the ram mounts are not cheap but you cannot beat them.

I mounted my handheld on the boat and in the winter I use the mount for my 4-wheeler for ice fishing.I never have to worry about the thing falling out either place. The cost of the mount verses the thing falling and breaking is worth the ram mount price.

I tried to think of a cheaper way and still a safe way to do it and I always ended up with thwe Ram.

I have the Ifinder H2o mounted in my boat using the RAM system. Yes, it was spendy...but well worth it. I would not trust velcro in rough/choppy water.....just my two cents.

I am in the market for a mount also for my H2O C .I talked to a guy at gander and he said use a universal one for about 25$ but they ran out. Im gonna check out fleet f. and see if they have any.

I velcroed mine in with 2" velcro across the back and have been through 6 footers with it and never had a problem. It depends on the surface area and the area you have to mount it. They make some industrial strength velcro these days and it is cheap to buy.

Both of my Garmins had a mount made by Garmin. On Lowrances HSOforum I was steered to a Ram mount for my Ifinder H2O. I picked one up for Gander (they usually are out) and it works better than I expected. I got it for $30; a price match of Fleet Farms sale price. You won't be disappointed if you get the Ram mount. Very quick to change position if needed.

Ram mounts all the way they are the best out there work the price at twice the cost. I have mounts on my wheeler, sled, truck, and boat. Move it to what ever I use and crank it down and I don't care how rough it is on the water they will not move. Velco to me just would not be worth it. A hard wave and over the side it might go. Today's GPSs are to valuable to cheap out on the mounting in my mind. As mentioned too you have some many option to move it around for visability very nice to have. For example if the sun make it hard to read you can just adjust it a litte and it will be just fine again.

Which RAM mount base to get for mounting on the thwart of most canoes? We rent our canoes when we go up to the BWCA and never sure the size/shape of the thwarts. I've heard that the motorcycle mount might be the ticket. I've seen the bicycle one and it seems too small. Is there an adjustable size mount available for gripping bars, either circular or angled/square?
