Limit of eyes on the ultralight

I picked up a $10 Super ultralight at fleet farm on saturday for crappie fishing. Went fishing yesterday and caught my limit of 13-15" eyes on a marbou jig. They put up a pretty good fight. grin.gif Should have seen the peoples faces when I hooked into one. They thought I had a 10lb'er.LOL

I believe catching any walleye is a struggle. Good job on catching them. I would have probably kept em too since I dont catch very many. I caught a 5 lber this past weekend and didnt think twice about keeping it. I did throw back a 9-10 incher. You brought home a nice meal. Good Job.

My 2 cents

Nothing wrong with a few 13"ers for a shore lunch or taking home to bake up for the family. Lots of lakes are full of 13"ers and not much more. Im more concerned with people who bring home the 21" plus eyes. Those are the big spawners.

To each his own though. Who am I to tel anyone they shouldnt keep a fish as long as its legal? All I can do is try to inform them and hope they choose what is right for them and practice whatever form(s) of CPR they will.

I dunno. Fishing Lake of the Woods for plenty of winters, the "if it touches the sides of the 5 gallon bucket" rule was in effect for many years, for many people including TV celebrities.

Whats the ID on a 5 gallon bucket?

If they were within the law & limits set forth by the appropriate state, I don't think you can criticize.

Walleyes on UL gear is a blast. I grew up doing it just as you explained. The lake I fished was packed full of crappies, gills, and silver bass. It also had a good population of eyes in the 10-15" range.

I personally get the most enjoyment out of catching and fighting a fish on light tackle. 4# test and a loose drag is tough to beat.

I just love how some peoples fist response is to criticize. It seems no matter what there is someone with the holier than thow attitude about keeping fish. You would think that some people have nothing more important to do than criticize others decisions. What the hell?

I am a CPR guy myself but I also get on the water 50-100 times each year. Many anglers only get out a limited amount and the reason they fish is to target and catch their legal limit of fish for a family or a shore lunch with friends. I respect and appreciate the right of any angler to do this. The state of MN, business, and many individuals generate a significant amount of revenue from the great sport of fishing.

Respect the sport and those that partake in the angling experience. If you are truely after a trophy fish there are many well managed bodies of water to meet this need. Specifially lake Mille acs. Anyone should be able to get a 27" or larger monster walleye from this body of water. And for the specific body of water said fish must "legally" be released.

Many other lakes are very well managed with slots to protect the walleye population for generations to come. Many metro lakes are stocked by annually primarly to meet harvest demands and not to create a world class trophy fishery.

I read far to many posts where someone post with great pride and excitement a day on the water only to have someone jump in with less then positive feedback. I have been fishing for 35 years and there are just as many good bodies of water today to fish as there ever was.

Hey, I still remember how great I felt being out on the wate with my dad when I was a kid. Cathing a fish and pleading with my dad can we keep it dad, can we keep it.

Life is much to short. Live, Laugh, Love, and set the hook !!!1

was not being negative soory. but the fact of the matter is if our Dnr stepped up the rules a little like other states have we would all have better fishing i.e. more fish. Keeping any small ones is selfish and can only negatively affect the population..And also sorry to all you self righteous people out there that think only you are entitled to your opinion.

If I'm hungry for fish, be it thirteen inches or 26, if that's what I've got to work with, it's gonna get ate, if it's legal.

Gonna die anyway, be it from mercury poisoning, old age, an infected ingrown hair or whatever. I tend not believe I'm gonna live forever, nor do I worry about it.

Walleye, I respect your right to your opionion. That is what makes America great. That being said this is a Fishing HSOforum and anyone who purchases a MN state issued fishing license has the "legal" right to possess the limit of fish outlined in rules and regulations.

As I stated I am a catch and release fisherman but I do not impose my way of fishing on anyone nor would I would push my political, religous, or other beliefs on another individual.

Anyway, I am not looking to stir the pot just stating my opionion as well. So I guess I we will simply have to agree to dis-agree.

Now get out there and set the hook !!!!!

Get the net this ones a pig !!!

Everyone is entitled to fish how he or she sees fit. Just cause it may not be what you choose to do yourself is no reason to criticize someone doing what they feel is right especially here. A 13" walleye is a nice walleye for eating. As Hanson mentioned the LOW rule was a generally accepted practice the past few years for most of us up there. I am glad there are some guys that will never keep a 13" walleye. But as previously mentioned it is less concerning to keep one of these as it is an 18" walleye or larger. I have been against a statewide regulation saying nothing less than 14". I strongly believe in selective harvest and practice it often. I love to catch walleye but I think I like to eat them even a little more. Back to the original topic of this post congrats on having a good time with the ultra light.
