gunflint, they are worth their weight in gold. I finally made the switch this spring after I was getting tired of fileting those crappies... I just bought the $30 rapala knife (110v AC). Cut my time down by more than half. Suprisingly I get more meat of the fish with the electric than a regular knife. you'll be happy with the investment!

The only thing I've heard bad about the rapala knives are the rechargeable battery models. Some of them had problems keeping a charge.

I love my Rapala electric. Gunflint once you practice a bit you will love it. Take your time on the 1st few fish and you will get the hang of it. Electrics are great for perch, sunnys and crappies that dull up regular knives in a hurry.

Got the Rapala corded electric this spring. Didn't take much practice at all, and my crappie fillets have more meat than when I do them with the regular fillet knife. (I was assuming that it would be the opposite.)
