Driving lights

DTro

Question

Looking for some suggestions for mounting some driving lights to a small aluminum v-hull for those dark nights on the minnesota river. I've seen them quite often on jon boats. The square bow makes for a more friendly mounting on the jons, but what about a v-hull? Are there brackets that will clamp on to the rails up front?

Any suggestions would be helpful.

Type of lights, brands, etc.

I have a big spotlight, but when I'm alone in the back of the boat the light reflects the inside of the boat pretty bad and really doesn't help much.

Before going into this project I would suggest getting a friend and use a spotlight in the position of the driving lights to see if there's any glare or reflections and if they work as you'd like.

I had a boat with a set but they were too close to water and didn't help much, the glare was blinding me more than the darkness, but I was looking at a distance, maybe if you just need to see few feet in front they might be ok.

I also would suggest any automotive driving/fog lights, they can be found very inexpensively, and already have mounting brackets, switches, relays, etc...

why couldnt you mount then on the outside of the boat just below the top rail and use a big fender washer on the inside and outside for sturdyness?

you wouldnt have any intierior reflection problems then.
