Minn Kota wireless control

I have a bow mount Power Drive 55 on my boat and I an not crazy about the foot control. It seem very difficult to make small corrections in the boats course. I'm thinking about going with the wireless remote. Does it offer better control.

I love my Co-Pilot. It is simple and intuitive. I can wander around my boat and alway have control of the trolling motor. I haven't used the foot controller this year.

Yes, it offers more precise control. They are pretty slick....

Still figuring out where to put the remote, had it on my wrist muskie fishing but when I went to do a figure 8, and rolled the wrists over, it was in the way. I want it accessible so I can kill the motor on a follow, which is also a challenge to do without disrupting the retrieve.

So, it may not be the greatest if you're chasing 'skis, but overall a nice addition to the ride.

I think the wireless gives better control than the foot. BUt the problem is that when you control the wireless, u need to use one hand to do it unless u mount the wireless on ur rod. But I dun mount it cos then u need to install a bracket on a few rods to do it. And it costs money to buy the brackets. So I use both. I have both the foot and the wireless out. When I am really busy with both hands, I step on the foot pedal. But I use the wireless more than 90% of the time.

I held off for a year and finally bought one couple weeks ago. Greatest move I've made!! Waaaayy better control and much handier for me. There is a place for both hand and foot controls, but for me the wrist control gets used most of the time. Excellent unit and a piece of cake to install.

Really use the rod mounts to get the most out of your unit. I put the mount in a place where I use my index finger when using a baitcaster(I palm my reel)so it is to the left sideways. When using a spinning reel jigging or lindy rig I place it on top and use my thumb. Keeping the remote handy at your finger tip is key to good boat control. I put a mount on every rod and was lucky enough back when I bought mine that I got an extra remote as a promotion. I have bought the extra rod holders now if they would just sell the zip strips seperate I would really be happy!!!

Thanks to all who responded, sounds like something I need. Next question, is it hard to install? Is it something I can do myself or does it require dealer installation.

Honestly, the time it will take you to read this is about the same amount of time it'll take to install. Two screws, that's it!

Two screws and one plug! grin.gif

The install takes no time at all(2 screws)One thing you will probably notice right away is the fact you need to be in a position at most times in a boat with visual contact of the motor untill you get used to using it.I almost always situate myself in the bow to keep an eye on the direction the trolling motor is facing. After using one for a long time you can get used to how it reacts and memorizing what direction you were heading last makes it possible to steer it without checking out its position constantly.Rod mounted remote is my favorite method as opposed to a wrist mounted method.
