Attempted Trailer Theft

Guest

Recommended Posts

I was at Demontreville yesterday from 7:30 - 9:00 and between that time, someone tried to steal my trailer! After doing some fishing, I came back to the truck, only to see my trailer at a 90 degree angle from my truck? What do you think they were attempting to do??

Don't matter that you don't know anybody over there. Probably just some kids with nothing better to do. Was your trailer locked onto your hitch and you hitch locked to your truck? If so then I would say just kids messing around to be funny. Better that then to have them wreck something or slash your tires or something. You can't have anything with out people messing with it. Lock everything always and keep your valuables with you. This is about the time of year that we hear of some guy losing his tackle box out of his boat while running in for minnows.

Didn't you have a bike stolen this spring too? Sounds like someone who knows your behaviors and patterns is trying to rip you off of every toy you own..... a neighbor or neighbor kid? Friend of a friend? this sounds like someone is following you and ripping you off. I am not a conspiracy theorist but I had a friend of a friend steal a bunch of stuff from a roommate of mine in college......lot of sick demented people out there.....

Years ago I was at the Demontriville access and ran into a guy who told me about his trailer being stolen... it was a brand new boat and trailer... came in from fishing and though the trailer was locked onto the hitch, the hitch wasn't locked into the receiver... they just pulled the pin and stole it. He noticed my trailer wasn't locked. Luckily I had my old 50's something jon boat trailer, they weren't interested in that. Since then I make sure all my trailers are locked up solid including the hitch into the reciever. The metro area just keeps getting a little worse every year.

Good Luck!

Thats a bad deal. I never even thought of people stealing the trailer from the launch. Not quite sure what I would do if I saw that when i returned to shore. How does one go about getting the boat home at that point. One thing is for sure that would ruin a good day.

A friend of mine has the hitch locked to the receiver, the coupler locked to the hitch and the coupler locked to the tongue! When the boat's on, it's locked to the trailer! Now that's what I call secure. I should probably mention that it's a hovercraft and yes, it can be taken off, water or not.

Living in the metro area, I don't think that any of this is overkill. Those of you that have been victimized would probably agree.

On a size note. ShawnnyB and I use to make an anual fishing trip up near Ely where we'd park at a landing and motor (or paddle as we did) to a site on the lake, much like the BWCAW. Anyway, after a couple of days, we decided to paddle back to the car to get some ice cream in town. I hopped in the car and tried to back out of the space, but really had to work at getting the car to move. Thinking the car had either sunk into the grass or had a flat tire, I got out and checked. Both tires on the drivers side were fine, but BOTH tires on the passenger side had been slashed. Each had a 4-5" slit in them. $500 later for 4 new tires (4x4) and the feeling of being violated means that I'll never be back. It was a great spot on a very quiet lake where I caught the largest bass of my life, and now it's been ruined by some drunk !#@$!!!

I guess the moral is, no matter how careful you are, there's no end to what people can do to hurt you! mad.gif

I live on Forest Lake and have been fishing it for years and I was out there last week and it would appear as though someone had tried to steal my trailer. It was at a 90 degree angle off my truck and I drive a newer Chevy so they stole the trailer light plug and tried to break the lock without success. About a month before this incident my 4-wheeler was stolen from the side of my house a 2000 HONDA 300 EX to be excact red and black. Pretty sad that you just can't trust anyone. frown.gif

This past winter my Aunt's Father-in-law and his friends where on there way back form snowmobiling in michigan. They stopped at the Wendy's in Forest Lake to get a bite to eat and when they cam back out the six place snowmobile trailer and snowmobiles where gone. That happened in the daylight around 4 in the afternoon. I haven't talked to him since but i am not sure if they police have found anything yet or not. Now that takes some pretty big balls to rip something like that off. Just had to add a story that i knew of.

I have noted six or eight car windows broken at the Demotreville ramp in the last few months. Someone has been having a lot of sex in the parking lot at night in the last few months as well. One of the homes on the street next to the parking lot has started parking a car in the lot at night to keep people from stopping in the middle of the night. I would not leave anything of value in my car or truck at that lot.

Last winter, my friend Andy went up north snowmobiling with a couple of his buds and wound up wrecking his sled.

The guy back at the motel was called and headed up to get him and the other guy. He was towing Andy's new aluminum snowmobile trailer, didn't put the locking pin in or something like that and the tongue broke right off and the trailer went into the ditch.

By hook and by crook, they got the sleds back to the motel and went to retrieve the wounded trailer and when they got there, it was gone! Someone had snarfled it out of the ditch and made off with it in the short time they had left it there!

I did note that there was a cavalier with tinted windows that was broken. Both the drivers side and the moon roof was broken. I assumed that that car belonged to the jet skier though.....

There was a lady that was on the phone there when I came back but she left pretty quickly.
