9.9 yamaha 4 stroke problem

Having some problems with my kicker it will run but wants to surge.Seems to idle ok but under power it surges up and down or will quit.I just cleaned out the carb but havent got to try it yet is there something else that will make it do this.This motor is 10 years old but has very little use on it.Thanks

You may have solved your problem with the carb cleaning. The surging could have been from improper fuel level. Things that can cause that are a sticky inlet valve, cracked hose or primer bulb, loose hose connections, weak fuel pump and cracked or plugged pickup line.
It could also be electrical. Like a plug or coil cutting in and out. Of coarse replace the plugs. Check the leads going to the ignition for loose connections. Check the plug wires to see if they are grounding out. Some times cover latches have a tendency to snag the plug wires.
