Merc - 4 stroke fuel injection

I'm looking at boats and had my mind made up that I wanted a Johnson 115 EFI motor to put on it,found out that this particular marina only puts Mercury on their boats. My question is: Is there any difference between the Johnson EFI and the Mercury 4- stroke fuel injected motor ? Thanks for your help!

If the Johnson is not a FICHT Injection System, then it would have a throttle-body fuel injection system, the same as the Merc.

If its a Johnson 4stroke then its a Suzuki engine with a white paint job. From what I've read and heard, the Suzuki's are better engines than the Merc's, they may be a little less expensve as well. You can compare specs on either HSOforum and see for yourself. Either way, they are both good engines and you'll be happy with any of the two.

Can't answer your original question but have also heard that the Johnson/Suz. is superior. Got this information from some dealers techs that rig both Merc and Johnson. Asked them straight out if they were going to put a new motor on the back of "their" rig which one would you choose. Very little hesitation in giving the Johnson the nod. I too agree that either way you end up going you will be more than happy.

I know many people that have a Yamaha 115 4 stroke on their rigs and haven't had any problems with them. Correct me if I am wrong but I believe that the Merc and Yamaha motors are one in the same as well.

The merc 115 is the same powerhead as the yamaha. Both the merc and johnson would be efi, multiport. The johnson/suzuki have a offset crankshaft which helps keep the weight over the transom. The johnson/suzuki also seems to be faster but that just might be in my opinion. Any way you go all of the efi 4 strokes work good.
