Buying Deep Cycle Battery

Guest

Question

  • 0

Alright, I've gotta ask for opinions again. Seems I'll need a new trolling motor battery, and a separate starting battery before spring. What is everyone's choice for a trolling motor battery. I tried to buy the biggest/baddest one last time, but I'm still dissapointed in the performance and durability.

Has anyone tried the Orbital batteries, or something new like that? Are they worth the money? Just looking at Cabela's I see they have a few newer types, but some are awfully spendy. What do you guys think?

For a starting battery, I'll probably just go with the best deal, unless people have better advice.

Exxide Nautilus Gold at Bumper-to-Bumper

1800 minutes reserve--they last 3years or more with virtually no special care.

The deep cells that are 250.00 bucks each are a scam...

I have to buy a new set this year, 1st time in four years. I get the L&M 49.95 Dura Start deep cycles. At this price you can't go wrong, the on board charger has a lot to do with battery life though I think.

$49.95, even if you only get three years you're better off than paying $100+ for one that won't last longer than four years.

I don't know if I have ever heard of a deep cycle that really gets used lasting much longer than four years.

I second Basscatt, I'm going into year 6 on the set I bought from A-1. When replacement time comes I'll go right back to them. Yes, they are heavy, there are more plates in these batteries and really well protected from internal damage from rough water and bumpy roads. I have had others, these are the best.

I decided to experiment with an Optima blue this past spring and sooo far it's been a good purchase and I'm brutal on batteries. My PD55 Minnkota is pushed approx 8 to 9 hours per guide trip and the battery still has kick at the end of the day. The thing that concerns me is I spent some bucks to get it...what will it be like this coming year AND following years??? Nav

I had an orbital battery from Fleet Farm (Exide maybe?). I used it as a starting battery on a 60hp. It lasted about 3 months before it would need charging after only a
few starts. This when the motor was being run for a few hours at a time. Returned and they checked it out as being fine but they replaced it anyway. Second one had the same problems as the first. Put one in my truck at the same time and have had no problems. I now have Interstate in the boat but had good luck with Stowaway in the past.

I have bought deep cycles from Fleet Farm and they last 2 years max for me.

I bought an Napa Orbital cell and I will only buy these batteries from now on. I love my Orbital, as the power is incredible and they are hard to drain. 4 year warranty is very nice too.

I have used the exide from fleet and I am not impressed with it at all, also the stowaway. I bought a acdelco voyager from a local bait shop two years ago, it has a three year warranty but as of now it is the only battery I will buy. Just my $0.02.
