So, the wait is over... and most everyone got a chance to some gamefish again... So the big question is, How did it go for all of you? Was it better or worse then years previous? Did you fish the same lake as usual or did you venture to new territory?

Let share some stories from this years opener.

We hit Yellow lake on Saturday and didn't catch any walleyes. Pretty slow bite, water temps were 50 and didn't see many others doing too well either. It was the most boats I've seen on Yellow in several years.

Fished Minong Flowage on Sunday and we got many small eyes but only one keeper and managed to keep about 15 nice crappies. Kinda nice, it seemed that there wern't many boats out anywhere this weekend or was it just me? I fished Lake nebagamon for a short time Saturday morning and caught two smallies one about 15" and one 18", but even there didn't seemed to be alot of boats on the lake. Oh well, at least I worked on my tan and got a fishing fix at the same time grin.gif

Three to four f.o.w. in the marshy areas and the surface temp was about 55 to 57 degs but alot of hammer handles biting us off. we went through three dozen minnows and only landed about 20 fish. The crappies were hitting very light!

Fished Horseshoe (n of Turtle Lake) - Bass were really snapping along with a few smaller northerns. 30 - 40 fish in 4 hours or so. Shallow water 6 feet and under - water temps around the 60 degree mark was best.

Fished the flowage also. Ended up with 4 legal eyes and alot of smaller ones. We had the same problem with the slimers taking all our bait. Not to much happening on the edges of the channel most our fish were in the weeds on the east shorelines. We had water at 58 degrees on saturday and it came up to 60 on sunday. Also caught some smallies witch was nice to see.

I will be back up on thursday to see if them legals will make a better showing.

Fished from shore south of Alma on some backwater as I was in the area turkey hunting. Caught bluegills all afternoon, could've kept a good mess of them. Also found some bass, caught about 8 of them including a fat 18.5 incher. Saw lots of gar cruising around but they weren't interested in eating.

JAR JAR,

I ended up pulling out around 5pm I think. I had to fly by 7pm so we had to cut fishin short confused.gifBut I am going to be back up there Thursday. I have a grey 16' lund with a merc on back and a yellow lab in the boat so you might have seen me. I usually troll the weeds around the island when I drop the boat.

Yes I did see you come in because my boys commented on the dog standing proudly up on the bow. cool.gif we were anchored in the corner as you come into the bay on the right side. lots of crappie sitting in there but real finicky.

I don't think I'll be down there this weekend being that the St.Louis opens.
