gopherfish
I have heard from a reliable source that they have been getting wally's out of 40-50 fow on a lake I plan to fish this weekend. Do any of you ever fish this deep in the winter time? I'm guessing it would be a pretty neutral bite. I'm giving it a try on Sunday and I will post how I do. Jim Hudson
gopher In some very clear lakes I have caught eyes that deep before during the mid-ice season. Usually a deep hole near some adjacent structure these fish will move up onto to feed during the low light periods. Being this deep I have actually found it is pretty good for catching the fish in this clear water as they are not as spooky. I have never caught a lot of fish but a few before I make a move up shallow for an evening bite. Neutral is usually right, so I like to use a flash lure with a dropper rig and I will fish a hole say 15 minutes and if no takers I will move, keep doing so until you find some more active fish. And when you do catch these fish that deep, you will kill most of them from bringing them up that deep. So hopefully most fish you catch will be used for the table. rangr
Gopher, I agree with jkh that only fish that deep if you plan on keeping them for the dinner table. At that depth theres really no chance for releasing them.
bigbucks
I don't normally fish that deep, but one year on New Year's Eve I caught a pair of 4 3/4's in 43 feet. I left my house there for a couple more weeks & never caught another fish of any kind.
