Gophers stadium

One of my customers is a big time booster for Gopher football. Last spring he showed me a plan of the new stadium that they are planning on building. According to him its pretty much a done deal. Don't know what that information is worth but he seemed very encouraged. The plans looked very cool. I think it was a 48,000 seat stadium, with the ability to add seats in the future. If had a gopher hall of fame, and a couple restraunts. It was pretty bare bones but it was open air and on campus!!! Lets keep our fingers crossed.

I think open air and on campus are great ideas for the Gophers, but lets be realistic. The Vikings NEED a new stadium too and we can't afford to build two.

The U boosters need to get their heads out of their buttocks and do whats best for BOTH the Gophers and the Vikings instead of doing the U and saying the heck with the Vikings. The greater good is more important than a perenniely mediocre at best football team!

I would support tax dollars for the Goghers to get a new stadium, beacause I pay taxes and have stock in the UofM. At this point in time I would not support helping the vikes,(or twins for that matter) at least not as long as Red Mcombs owns the team. The vikes need to spend some money(on high quality players) to get some money.

I hope the gophers get their stadium, they(we) deserve it.

I would support a Gophers stadium as a fan and a taxpayer. The U needs it and deserves it. After going to places like Camp Randall and seeing what they have for atmosphere and excitement. It is a must.

The pro stadiums I support although, I do not believe I should have to give money to support billionaires like Pohlad or McCombs, but I believe it is in the best interest of our state and cities economically.

The taxes generated by the jobs at the stadium, players salaries (that includes visiting players also), and money spent at the games is a huge amount. If the teams leave, we are out that money and it has to be replaced. The way I look at it we either pony up and get them a stadium or we can let them leave when their lease is up and we can then pay extra taxes for the revenue lost. I would rather pay the extra tax and keep them, then lose them and pay more anyway.

what do you guys think the consensus is around the Twin Cities? Is it positive as a whole or more negative? What is gonna happen first; new stadium for the Gophs or Vikes?

I think it is fairly postive for the U. It is part of our tax system and a obligation of sorts for the state. I think the big hang up on the Vikes is that Red could build it himself and hardly notice the money was gone. People don't want to pay for it. Unfortunately, the reality is that somebody will eventually build the Vikes a stadium. If it is not us, we will lose them. Does anybody think St. Paul or the State is regretting building the XCEL? I know hockey is not playing but when they were and when they come back the city did/will add $1 to $2 mill a night to the economy. Add concerts, high school tournaments, etc.. It has been a pretty good deal.
