Harmonator
Heading up Jan 21st. Wondering how the ice/ slush conditions are. Also, how about the laker fishing?
superbee
I was just up and there is alot of slush, you don't want to be towing a sleigh off of a hard packed trail. I didn't have any problems catching trout, nothing big, just 3-8#. Where are you staying when you go up? Just remember don't stop in the slush. Harmonator
Superbee, thanks for the reply! We stay at the outpost cabin on Loonhaunt lake and usually fish Pipestone. The cabin is owned by Ross's Camp located on Clearwater. Any tips on what you were using and where? Thanks again.
superbee
I just had some friends come back and they said there is a good hard packed trail up the lakes now. They also told me about a cabin in Watson Bay on Pipestone that is for rent in winter. I have the number if you want it. The fish were all at about 35ft over 60 ft of water. We caught all of our trout on white or glow tubes. Good luck.

superbee
I'm not sure what the name of the owner is, but the # is 807 482 1388. Have fun and save a few for us.
superbee
I'm thinking of heading up there this coming weekend, anyone know what the conditions are? Are the trout biting, and what is working the best? Thanks.
Harmonator
Super,Got back home on Sunday from Pipestone, what a trip!!!! Slush is absolutely everywhere, you must stay on the trail. Snow is very deep. We got to the outpost cabin on Loonhaunt early Friday afternoon, so we fished that afternoon and all day Saturday. We could not fish our normal spots so ended up hunting for other spots. We caught a total of one laker for a day and a half of fishing. The beer was cold and the cabin was warm, so all in all it was a good trip! Be careful and good luck if you go this weekend.Tom
doc
I thought the cabin on Loonhaunt burned down?
Harmonator
Doc,Yes, it did burn down last winter. They rebuilt it last summer. If you have been to the old cabin, this one is amazing. Knotty pine throughout with all the goods. Tom
superbee
It sounds like a wet mess. I think we are still planning on going, but we'll be more careful where we go. We'll fish on Pipestone or some of the smaller surrounding lakes on the North end. We usually have more luck on Pipestone than anywhere else. I'll let you know how we fair, if we end up going.
