Odd noise in strikemaster

I fired up my strike master yesterday to drill some holes and noticed it making sort of squealing noise. It's not a constant noise just about every 2 revolutions of the blade. It kinda sounds like the gearbox. The auger is about three years old and has always worked just fine until this year. What should I do? Is there a way to check the gear lube? I don't want to start taking things apart if I'm gonna screw it up, I'm pretty good at that.
