I read somewhere that many of the lakes with high alkalinity such as Devil's, Waubay, and Bitter have a problem with Walleye reproduction. I'm not sure why Perch don't have the same problem. Evolution, I guess. It seems if they're alkaline enough to have bunches of fresh water shrimp to feed the walleyes, the walleyes can't reproduce. It would be interesting for some graduate student to see whether Perch from a low alkalinity lake(lake with an outlet to keep the water fresher) would be able to reproduce in water from Bitter or Waubay.
