Hay Island/Crappies

Recommended Posts

We were there last week. There are crappies to be caught, but they tended to be on the fussy side. A little finesse and they would cooperate.

On the weekends, it may pay to get there early, as it got busy later in the morning. If the warm weather continues, be very careful. The ice there has so many auger holes in it that it will be a minefield soon.

I was out there about a month ago and it was kind of the same deal...they were not very agressive and they bite very light. How was the size of your fish? Also did you try fishing anywhere else?

If you find the 46' spot on the south tip of Hay out in front of the little inlet you'll find the crappies about 6' off the bottom. Orange jigs were the ticket(for me anyway) tipped with minnows. The small Angel Eyes were workin' good too. If you go, stop at the first bait shop in Nestor Falls. The second place(by the grocery store) as you go north thru town is charging 16 bucks canadian for a single scoop..........T
