Peoria,Il. ice conditions?

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow hard water fanatics. I'm a new member to the board(and also an iceleader!) and I was wondering if anyone happens to know the ice conditions on farm ponds around the peoria,il. area? I live in Yates City and am hoping to break out the fishhouse soon!

We had ice on ponds in Peoria last weekend. My son told me he walked out 6ft & heard it cracking so ran off.

It's been warm again the last couple days, so it's pretty much gone now. The water is at that temp though - a week of cold & I'll be fishing.

Does any have any fishable ice around peoria and if so, do you think it will last thru the warm spell? Will the Highs in the 30's and lows in the 20's create any new ice in Jan.-seems like I heard they're predicting above average temps. for jan.-bummer- anyone else heard this?

Iceman checked duck island yesterday only had about 3 '' . Use caution if your going out. I was only fishing three foot of water also wore the neoprenes, and spikes. I fished the west side of the main gravel pit. There was still open water on the east side. Put thirteen crappie in the bucket, biggest one was just under 15''.Lots of small gills also. Any questoins e mail [email protected] Good Luck

Thanks for the info!- probably won't get fish again until 1st of the year-I recently fished on 1 and 1/2 to 3" of ice, done this before ,this year was smart and tied off to the bumper of my truck-,fished in 3' of water, and had a floatation vest and spikes on!Won't do it again though ,too dangerous!Where is the lake you fished located-I live in Yates City and the farm ponds are gonna melt fast,I think!

Iceman, I've been out of town. I live in Canton, so not too far from Yates City.Duck island is an old gravel pit that the state purchased 2 years ago. It's located about 4 miles south of banner on rt 24. It's only about 15 min from Canton. the river flows into it so you never know what your going to get. pulled a 28 inch walleye out last winter . Mostly crappie and gills . Good Luck.
