i finally figured out why i have so many robins hanging around yet. the neighbor has a couple of them mountain ash trees, i think??? LOL! that has the berries on them. they sure are hanging around that tree. some even act like there a little loopy!!!!!
getting the itch with this early snow. was looking at the sled and thinking of getting it ready, but its too early, I will wait another 3 weeks or so. I was up at the cabin in backus today to pull out the dock ( in lots of snow) and noticed there have been a few people out in the ditches already. ground still not froze, so only about 4 inches on the ground, but I did shovel a good 8 inches off the deck today, way to early for this.
Those looked way past prime. You want to find them white to slightly pinkish on the underside. You do not have to eat them the same day, but you do need to prepare them the same day. I rough cut them, and sauté them in butter then freeze them in portion sizes. Some people will have a reaction if hey had consumed alcohol two days before or after eating them. I ate some a day after a couple of beers with no adverse effects. I like them best with beef or venison dishes, in gravy, or in eggs. Kind of an earthy flavored mushroom similar to the store bought button mushrooms, only a bit more intense.
I didn't get an animal or even a shot but I learned so much! The importance of quality optics and hunting outerwear.
The better shape a person is in, the more enjoyable and successful the hunt. I got to meet new people and hunting partners. Quality people only add to the experience!
Learning a new game animal and way to hunt is so satisfying yet frustrating at the same time.
In short, a trip of a lifetime for me but with the promise of a repeat next year.
