St Paul Icefishing Show.

I went 2 years ago and got about $50 off on the Helix I wanted. Brought the whole family, including an infant in a stroller. Wouldn't do that again. The place was packed.  I would have loved it if I went by myself. But as it was, my wife and kids found a spot they could hunker down, I went to buy the Helix, and we got out of there.

I plan to attend.  Nothing to purchase.  Did some buying at the Blaine Hard Water Expo.  I  will be just looking for OEM stickers for my new sleds.

How is the Blaine Event?  Been meaning to go, but it's during the deer hunting season - at least it was this year and I seem to recall it's usually during the firearms season.

This St. Paul thing is in the Cities, right?  Um, none for me thanks. 😏

It's ok we don't need you Wood ticks down here clogging up the roads or event anyway!  😆

I’d find appropriate parking.  Us ticks bury in and are hardly noticeable. 😛

Oh it's ok.  I'm going to be up in Sartell for my grandsons Hockey tourney and miss it anyway, fester away!  😋

The Blaine event is small and to the point.  All of the main players are there.  The parking lot seemed full, but the turnover of folks leaving made it a non-issue for us.

The St Paul show this weekend coincidenced with the Disney on Ice shows at the X and something going on at the Children's Museum.  Booth ramps on the river side of Kellogg were full before the VIP, 11am doors opened.  We ended up parking 6 blocks away in a hotel ramp.  We were yelled at by a cute, mid-40s aged gal with f-in heimers about our inability to "read something," probably the crosswalk lights.  There were no cars around, so we proceeded to cross.  She was doing at 45 coming at us......

The VIP ticket line was short.  It took longer to walk around to the back ticket booth then to purchase.  However, the line to gain entrance was a block long, wrapped all the way to the front skyway,  1,000 or so deep.  It went pretty fast though.  Odd was the security and metal detectors to enter.  One security guy told us to take our out guns and knifes in addition to keys, phones, vap sticks, and lighters.  I have not been to the show in 3 or so years.  Wow how things have changed.

The show was good.  Ran into a lot of personalities and what not.  We were out for lunch at 1pm and back around 2, when the isles started filling up.

    • My dad has a catalog you can get Carolina reaper seeds. 7.50 for 10 seeds. 55% germination. I know the way I grow leggy peppers from seed it would cost me 50 bucks to get a couple good plants. Hopefully I can find some plants this spring.
    • Haven't fished Centerville this year.  We usually target the Northerns in 8-10 feet with shiners and tip-ups
    • I remember the very high index around the 96/97 winter.  Actually that was the first I ever heard of it.  Made sense though. We were riding the NSST north of Silver Bay and one of our wrong turns brought us to two mountains of roadkill deer carcasses. The roads were the only means of travel for them. That was the deepest snow I ever encountered sledding. At one overlook I stepped off the side of the packed trail and went over waist deep, needed to grab the sled to climb back out.. The 3 sided log shelter at this spot only had a gopher hole in the snow to get down in it!   Hope Feb isn't a repeat of last year..
    • i've been watching this for 4-5 years now, maybe longer. back when the DNR cut back even some northern minnesota zones not have anterless drawings.
    • I don’t usually search out the WSI but have taken notice of it for years.  They usually start reporting it in Outdoor News when it starts getting bad.  I figured it was going to be high this year.  We’re just lucky it hasn’t been colder.   Still, I hope for the best for both mooses running around here. 😉
    • Just an interjection, if you have been following the issue of Moose vrs Deer in the NE Minnesota area.   You may now return to whatever you were going to say about deer and snow.    As I understand it, cold and snow can be hard on the deer population.    Although, judging from the evidence in the spring at our cabin it hasn't hurt much the past few years.   Anecdotal evidence and all that.
    • I didn’t realize we changed the subject
    • Naw this moose hunts deer in the arrowhead and the deer numbers have been for the last 5 years now. This winter could really hurt the herd
    • Since I Deer hunt and snowmobile I'm always a little torn when there's a lot of snow during a winter. 😐
