Wisconsin delivers again. Buddy Dave and I shot a nice double the second day of our season. Plenty of action and lots of gobbling the first few days, then it got tougher. We left with three filled tags, two unpunched.

Spent the following weekend mentoring a lady for the Becoming an Outdoor Woman program. Maybe my favorite hunt of the year. We didn't get her a bird, but had some incredibly great shows including six big toms coming in together only to be frightened off by a coyote.

Then with just one more chance in Minnesota, I couldn't pass on this Jake that stood at just 12 yards.  Three birds in three states is not a bad season in anyone's book.

Bring on the fishing season!

Great Finish to a great season. I am trying to quit but my son keeps dragging me out of bed at 3:45 AM. It is ok as I really enjoy watching the world wake up sitting in a blind sipping on Coffee. 2 more mornings to go!

My son has killed three Toms now in three years, with each subsequent bird shot a little later in the day.   10:30 AM, 3 PM and 8 PM.   Morning is certainly more entertaining if they are gobbling, but I have found evenings are less taxing on a school aged kids.   Hunt in a blind and they can even do home work.

If you are able to pattern the birds, the odds of success improves - but they are turkeys so nothing is a guarantee. ;)

Shot mine a little before 8pm on Monday.  Slept in and got a pile of projects done.  Due to commitments it was my last opportunity to tag one.  Saw a few stutters but not any gobbling.  This one skirted my setup but got just close enough to take a ride in my truck. 😁

I thought the birds in MN ran pressured or stale most of the season.   Past couple years they were much more responsive to calling (decoy or no decoy).   This year some nice Toms seemed very decoy shy.  Son's wet bird was shot at the end of Season E ... 8 PM at night, steady rain, and very windy.   Came in very slow and quiet.

Son's wet bird.

I did not get out until "E" again.  Last year was done at sunrise first day, this year it took longer (last day of season F).  I hunt a different zone/area than when I am with my son (outskirts of metro).  This year the birds in my area just were not around in normal numbers or not very vocal even on the roost.  Will admit I did not work extra ordinarily hard the days I was out.  Just can't run & gun like I used to ... especially when the woods run rather silent at dawn.

My last day bird

Saw plenty of hens about - so that bodes well if the weather dries up and stays mild in temp.

Few jakes seen.

Most Toms running solo this year.  Last year they were more often in pairs if not larger groups.   I have found that generally speaking there is nothing easier to bring in than a pair or trio of toms or jakes.

    • Find this on Amazon and you can use Bluetooth. It has 2 different outputs. 3.5mm and RCA:   Logitech Bluetooth Audio Adapter for Bluetooth Streaming
    • Ben Affleck  -  Dazed and Confused Keanu Reeves - Speed Brad Pitt - Sleepers Robert Redford - The Natural Chevy Chase - Nation Lampoon Christmas   Nicolas Cage - The Rock
    • ok I got it figured out, not sure its the best solution but it works.   I thought the 3.5mm jack on the jbl speaker was an output, but its an input so completely scrapped that. I was hoping to go that route so it would charge my phone at the same time.   So instead I opted for this option instead:     It works and I have left and right stereo and its not mono. It sounds ok but I may splurge for a 3.5mm to  digital input cable and see if its worth it.
    • Armageddon Constantine Inglourious Basterds(sp) Jeremiah Johnson The vacation movies   And I don't remember the name of the movie  but Nicholas Cage played a soldier in the Crusades who had to transport an accused witch to another town. • I'm gonna list 5 Actors, if ya care to play, list your favorite movie that they have appeared in.   Ben Affleck  Keanu Reeves Brad Pitt Robert Redford Chevy Chase   *time out* Bonus 6th pick..... Nicolas Cage
    • I want to connect my iPhone to an old home theater receiver in my garage I am sure there is lots of ways to do this just trying to think of what would be best.   I have an iPhone with no headphone jack. Not a problem I currently put it on a dock with a speaker. That dock has a 3.5mm out that I should be able to convert into something that would work as an input to the receiver?     Here is the back of the receiver, its an old ONKYO that I had set up as a home theater many years ago. Its been collecting dust in the basement and I still have all of the speakers so I thought, hey I could really jam out in the man cave with some good speakers if I can get everything hooked up correctly   I could go 3.5mm to rca (red and white) and I think that would get me stereo and not mono?   Or could I go 3.5mm to digital optical or 3.5mm to coaxial? See all my options circled in red below?
    • For this episode of the Duffman & Wanderer bass show I present to you the third week of August.   Wed is my usual day to get out. I figure it's before the Thurs night leagues and gives some space from the weekend warriors. Wife had a work party at our house, bonus water time for me. Too bad it was on one of "those" days. Sloooow. Talked to a regular, he agreed it was slow and chimed in "Two days ago though" Argh, that's all I needed to hear after only catching 3 bass in 5 hours. One went 4lbs, a 2ish, and a sub pounder........those little fish aren't usually where I'm fishing.   Gave it another go today...........short biters for me all week. Dealing with some pea green soup water, today was already clearer than Wed. That 4 was blind in one eye, seemed to be a lateral line strike. Maybe that's why they are short?   Had some action today at least, a smaller class of fish,  2.5 - 3 lb range. A half dozen, missed a couple, had two pop off, seen one.......20" class fish. Did the usual #@&%$,!, and casted again. I think I need to sharpen some hooks.  Still cranking, although I jig n pigged today for a tad......I never jig n pig. Forcing myself to try other things.   It's always interesting observing fellow fishermen. There's pressure everywhere these days. You recognize folks that look like they know what they are doing, and others that don't have a clue. I think I seen a 12" screen on a kayak this week!. I watch what people are using on a spot, and once they move on, I have no problem moving in. Fishing seems cyclical, some years are better than other's. That's fishing, hope you are out on the days when the "HOT" bite is going down.    Tune in next week for another episode.
    • To bad your not up here in Minnesota.  There are Ice houses on lots for sale all over this state.  You could stop in with a tape and get the dimensions you need.
