Fish Taco

Lake Of The Woods

Been ice fishing out of Zippel Bay Resort now for like 20 some years. Looking for a better spot to go out of to catch some bigger slot fish. Just hasn't happened for many years in the Zippel Bay area.

Been thinking of going out of Dales or maybe Long Point. Any input would help. We do have a wheel house and generally fish the first wknd of March. Thanks.

Was up there a week ago. We stayed at the Walleye Retreat Lodge but did our own fishing rather than using their houses. First day we went out kind of N-NW of Morris Point into 27' of water. Didn't do too well. Just a couple saugers in the afternoon.

My nephew was up there with another bunch and went out using Adrian's Resort access and did quite well that same day. They gave us waypoints to their location so on day 2 we tried that. It was about 15 miles north in 33' of water. We did much better this day although most were still saugers in the 12" - 13" range. Got a few walleye in the 15" - 19" range and one 21" by your's truly.

Seemed our best success, especially for the walleyes, was dead sticking using a plain hook through the back of rainbows about a foot off the bottom. I talked to one of our neighboring fishermen and he had just landed a 27" walleye.

    • so, last nite I busted my butt to get all my peppers. maters, celery and green beans planted before the rains came. it was way to windy to plant carrots and the rest of my kolarabi. I wanted to plant my cabbage but grabbed broccoli instead. ISH...… got them today and there in.   so once this crappy weather moves on i'll get anything else in the ground soon.   picked my first bunch of asparagus today!!!!!! there in the process of getting put in a pickling brine!!!!!

    • Just about done.  All the pads are finished up. All the trim has a clear coat on it now(2 coats around the windows and door). I also got some blinds installed.  I had a nice surprise from my mom.  She bought me a tv for it.  I had planned on putting a tv in it before next ice season so thats awesome to get one installed early.  Its going to make its madden voyage next weekend.  We are going up to Cut Foot Sioux to camp for memorial day weekend. Now its time to clean it all up good and stock it up for camping.
    • For the 2019 Minnesota Fishing Opener we went out on Lake Vermilion in search of Walleyes. Our first day the fishing was slow with a lot of different tactics and areas tried. We made a change that evening and casted artificials into rocky shorelines with a lot of success. We decided to try that again the next morning when a large surprise inhaled my jerkbait!
    • Another good start from Perez last night, Kepler & Adrianza with 5 of the 7 RBI's
