Am I Alone Or.....

are there others who are chomping at the bit to hit open water again? It looks like I'll be stuck inside for the next week but have found myself watching open water fishing videos and have started inventorying my Lake Superior gear. I'm in for a long several months

I'm not ready yet, but next week's negative high temperatures is probably going to help me be over the whole winter thing.

Headed to the Croix for some dinosaur fishing?

I think it kind of suks that the Outdoor shows are like department stores and start pushing summer fishing and products on us before the winter is even over. 😕

When I can't make it out Ice fishing I would at least like to watch some during the Ice Season! 🤨

Oh, it sounded like a destination thing and IMO there's only thing in the Croix you can't get pretty much anywhere else.  It is a good fishery for any number of things though.

But maaaan, it can be a boring night fishing off the bottom in an ice shack for sturgeon.

Most of my teenage and adult life I have loved winter. Snowmobiling and Ice fishing used to be two of my favorite activities of all time but as I get older and since I had some health issues a few years ago, I am liking winter less and less.

We also parked our camper on a seasonal site up north last summer so we are really missing that experience and that makes me want winter to be over fast.

Well if no one has checked the forecast for about the next 9-10 days it sounds like she's going under tonight and not coming up above -0.  Next Tue is suppose to be -20 below and Wed night -22 below and that's for the cities!  Brainerd is suppose to be -24 & -26 those two days. That is a bit Nippily even for a winter lover like me!  😯

Just getting nice out, I can deal with cold better then heat. Keep the ice fishing around as long as we can. I was fishing into april just north of the metro last spring. Older I get the more I like having winter around.

Couple more trips to Red and just local fishing left. Devils in March still .

I will take the cold and snow while fishing on the lake over having to deal with mosquitoes, jet skis and wake board boats on the water any day.

With this bitter cold weather coming, I just keep repeating, its not the heat its the humidity lol 😋

Getting a taste this week. Nothing too serious, but it's nice to be casting again. It looks like a good week to be hanging out in the Conch graveyard here in Aruba vs upnorth.

:)

  • Your Responses - Share & Have Fun :)

    • baked some frog legs for supper last night, 400* for about 40 minutes or so... oiled with extra virgin olive oil and seasoned with lime pepper!!!  very tasty and tender to eat!!  and yup leech no photos as usual!!!
    • I think suckers are better smoked than carp........
    • I don't personally but have a friend up in Itasca county where his kid does. they can it and he says its like a tuna spread. its good smoked but bones galore. I've also had pickled sucker and no bad!!!!!
    • Maybe he finally remembered his password? 🤷‍♂️😁
    • I recognized pheasantpete’s handle.  Been registered since 2008 and posted in this thread back in ‘14.  Maybe he just finally checked his notifications. 😁     Never heard of a spammer that was THAT patient! 🤣
    • Anyone spear spring suckers? Any tips or tricks to it? Is it allowed to spear after dark with a light? Do you smoke the suckers or make fish patties?
    • And when it happens it will probably have one if it's main ingredients just happen to be alcohol based. Strange how that works.
    • LOL     Why is this ancient thread being revived?  I'm waiting for the product placement in this saga.
    • I say don't keep any gas in anything that is going to sit. Any problems with fuel are water problems not the alcohol. You take out the alcohol in Minnesota in winter you get frozen fuel lines. This was common in winter for decades until ethanol was added but they used isopropyl rather than ethyl alcohol. In fact many of the " remedies" are just other forms of alcohol. If you get so much water in the fuel that the alcohol gets saturated and phases out then you have a contamination issue and the problems won't be solved by  removing the alcohol. You will just have more unbound water sitting at the bottom of your tank building sludge.   Lots of the problems with small engines are derived from the chemicals that come up with the crude in the well. Companies blend this into the fuel rather than pay to dispose of it and that is what gunk's up the fuel system. Gumout was invented long before ethanol and carb cleaner was a regular maintenance procedure needed because of those chemicals mucking up the fuel system. Alcohol is a very good solvent and it does a good job of cleaning up deposits left from those chemicals but as a consequence of that cleaning action you will get clogged Jets and such periodically. But in that case alcohol is the good guy that is cleaning up the dump left behind by the fuel.
    • I tell people all the time do not use ethanol at all in equipment your store for extended times. I often hear but, but I use it in my car all the time. I respond do you drive your car often? Yes they say. I tell them then your fuel did not have time to become water saturated. There is good reason wise car collectors store their prized classics with non-ethanol fuel only.
