Lack of options?

They had 2 guys that could maybe compete with the Yankees, Berrios and Odorizzi.  Berrios couldn't get it done in game 1 and maybe they were thinking instead of wasting Odorizzi for game 2 on the road in NY where its going to be hard to win no matter what they figured they'd take their shot with Dobnak and hope to get lucky by out scoring the Yankees and then hope Odorizzi could shut the yankees down in game 3 back home.   Obviously it didn't work but I'm guessing it wasn't going to matter much either way.  The Twins were outmatched in every single part of the game.

Unless we can seriously beef up our rotation and bullpen I'm guessing we regress back toward being an 85-90 win team next season.  Thats probably where we would have been if we didn't catch lightning in a bottle with all of the homers this season.

Well all I can say is if you get to the playoffs and your #2 starter is a guy who was driving for Uber a couple of months ago then you really don't deserve to win anyway.

I'm pretty disappointed!  We had the best record we have ever had.  Hit the most homeruns ever hit in major league history.  Our stats were basically even with the Yankees except they made us look like a minor league team out there.  I'm blaming a big part of this on pitching.  Like I said 2 months ago, if they wanted to go deep this year then they should have spent some money on pitching.  Pitching is a major issue with this team and has been for a long time.

The '65 team that ran into Koufax & Drysdale in the WS won 102. Pitching was a big part of it IMO but our defense wasn't very good the 1st couple games either.  One reason they left some many RISP is that they had 35 K's in the series.😞

Even absolutely terrible teams win about 3 out of every 10 games.  The best teams win about 7 of 10.  There is so much random in baseball that's just how it works.  You win some you lose some.

What is it now?  0 and 16 against the Yankees?

Such a disappointment.

At least my Cardinals are still in it.

0-16 against the Yankees.

Welp

He is a winner off the field though 😂:

I don’t think they’ll regress too much. I think they’ll be the favorites to win the central next year. I don’t think the baseballs will be “doctored” next year either, so I expect homerun numbers to be down all across the league. Kinda sucks seeing all the other series’ go to a game 5.

27 of those 35 K's were in the 1st  2 games  so they only put the ball in play for 1 of those. Something they didn't do in the regular season as they were in the top 2 or 3 for fewest K's/9 all season. Granted some of that was because of NY's pitching but they were swinging at a lot of stuff  that was more that a little off the plate too.

Very true.  It was a fun regular season but I could never get that excited about the Twins making the playoffs knowing that their starting rotation was such a mess.

You don't really need a lot of starting pitching to make a playoff run these days though, look at TB. Only 2 real starters but all their pitching was very good as they led the league in ERA for the season. All while having the lowest payroll.

You may not need a rotation full of aces but you've got to have something decent to roll out to the mound each game.  TB appears to have overall good but not great pitching which is still far better than what the Twins bring.  We'll also see how TB fairs long term.  So far they've pitched well and taken a short series to game 5 but they still haven't advanced so they haven't gone on any sort of a run just yet.

WS in '08, don't think they had started the "opener" bit yet then. Think they were 1 of the early ones to do all the shifts though. Seen where MLB Network announced today that the Twins have already decided to pick their option on Cruz.

Always been kind of a Verlander fan, except when he was with the Tigers & we had to face him a lot. Anybody but the Yankees or the Dodgers in the NL for me.😎

Viewing this from afar I will give my opinions.  It starts and ends with the manager.  The decisions he made in the series were just as costly as any.  The first reliever after Jose in game 1 score 3/3.  The Gibson decision in same game down 7/4, basically giving up with 3 at bats left.  Game 2 starter, come on, 28 innings under his belt and thats the game you cant lose after loss in game 1.  I would have preferred ozzo or Gradural as the opener.   The play of Garver.  If he couldnt see he was off/injured he needs glasses.  I dont believe Castro got an ab.  Not his fault but the Yankees seemed to have a better plan and approach, probably due to scouting etc.  Very dissapointed with all phases.

Bet Dozier isn't too mad about getting traded now, not sure how much time he's seeing lately though.

Here's to hoping that they are indeed back to the non-juiced balls.

Then the 2019 Twins will be the best home run hitting team of all time.

OF ALL TIME!!!!!

*chuckle*

I am glad they were able to finish 1 homer ahead of the Yankees. Unofficially they should have more runs also. The Yankees got to play those 2 games in London, with that tiny outfield, where they scored like 35 runs and hit 15 homeruns.

I’ve never liked the Nationals, but now I hope they win the World Series just as a slap in the face to Bryce Harper.

Looks like  the Cardinals are about done. Hope Gerrit Cole does today what Strasburg did last night.👍

Honestly, the nationals would be better off losing today and playing another game. Yankees/astros has 7 game series written all over it. Having 1 or 2 extra days off is good, but sitting around for a whole extra week would work against them.

I think it'd be hard to convince them of that but your right as that seems to happen a lot in the playoffs. The extra rest could be good for their starters but I'm not so sure about the bats, guess we'll find out.

    • I think the part smurfy left out is the french press.   https://www.thespruceeats.com/egg-coffee-2952648   The only place I have had egg coffee is at some lutheran church's diner at the state fair.  It's a pretty decent cup of coffee.
    • Coffee grounds boiled egg?  You been reading to many of Del's Sous Vide posts! 🤢🤮 😆
    • Maybe I'm missing something, but doesn't the egg cook in the boiling water?  I'm picturing coffee with bunch of floating bits of scrambled eggs floating at the top.
    • I think it's diluted.  It's a different sort of awful than burnt awful.
    • my guess super cheap and a poor grade of coffee!!!!!!!!!!   if anyone uses on of them pots papadarv has pictured, try making egg coffee. man thats good stuff. simply put the coffee grounds in a cup, and an egg, no shells, mix good and put in the boiling water. you do need to pay attention, it boils over easy. when you think its done, just add a bit of cold water, this makes everything settle sooner. and enjoy.
    • Right to the ice if possible but hard to do in snow. Push them into the slush. Gaps let wind in
    • ... in an attic.  I’m due to re-blow that cellulose insulation into my attic this spring. The first time I had a professional blow it in. I’m have heard that re-insulating it is a project you can do yourself you could just rent the machine/blower. Has anybody here done it themselves?  I’m also getting my roof redone this spring. Should the cellulose insulation be blown in after the roofing is completed or doesn’t  it matter?
    • With the amount they must go through in a morning I've always been amazed at how god awful most hotel coffee is.
    • What does everyone like for hole sleeve length? Right to the ice, 1/2 or 1 inch off?  Just a day fishing/run and gun rig so freeze in is not a huge concern.
    • Yeah that would be a good start.  We should have won that Iowa game but we got handled pretty well from Wisconsin.
