2018 Twins

Recommended Posts

any predictions for this year? I am going out on a limb with the following:

My predictions:
twins win 86 games
buxton hits 20+hr
mauer hits .300+
kepler hits 25+ hr
morrison does well but not sure how many at bats he gets at DH but Sano will get hurt so that will shake up lineup

I expect twins to make a big trade possibly dozier since they wont resign him

Twins wont be able to surprise anyone this year and will need to earn it. Should be a fun year just hope they compete and dont have a bad year and avoid any injuries.

Very disappointing season so far. Getting swept by Tampa Bay is unacceptable! No reason to believe we won’t get swept by the Yankees either. 4 game series against the twins could be exactly what Giancarlo Stanton needs to break out of his slump.

Twins are 33-91 against the Yankees since 2002! Its unbelievable how awful they play against them.

Stanton absolutely murdered that hanging curveball for a HR last night.

I realize its still April but this bad stretch of baseball has been awful. Hopefully getting back into a routine schedule and a few games back home they can get back on track.

Thankfully Cleveland isn't completely running away with the division yet. Not sure at this point if Wildcard will even be an option for another team in this division this year.

I’m not ready to pull the plug on Rodney yet. Mauer should have been put on first for defensive purposes. I guarantee he gets that bad hopper, and gets the first out, instead of a lead off base runner.

This has been a brutal stretch for them. They have been terrible at everything.

they should look good against the white sox who are terrible. It was good to see them keep the momentum going against the Cardinals though last night especially on the road. Been impressed with Romero's last 2 starts. Would love to see a homegrown staff of him and Berrio's take off.

Need to get Buxton back and healthy as Grossman is a liability in the OF.

Well, I had given up hope that the twins would win the division quite some time ago. But now, I’ve lost hope that they’ll finish with a .500 record. I’d say it’s time to start gutting the team out, but we don’t have anyone trade worthy! Rosario and Escobar are the guys I hope they decide to build around. Time to cut ties with Sano, he’s going to be a career underachiever. I think Buxton is tip toeing the line also. Dozier is toast! Mauer is more likely to retire. I also think it’s time to part ways with Molitor.

At the all-star break and man did I blow it with the predictions lol.

Other than Rosario and Escobar not really much to get too excited about.

Nice home-stand before the break but its already been a big disappointing season. Of all the late 90''s  teams that were just awful and then the recent  90+ loss teams repeatedly over and over, this years team has to be the most frustrating of them all. Definitely a regression.

Buxton/Sano I dont want the team to give up on them but good grief. After some progress last year I think everyone was expected big things from both of them. I would say give up on them but players like these always go on to shine somewhere else when the Twins let them go.

Mauer has been ok, nothing great but good to see him back hitting again after his stint on the DL.

Morrison dug himself too big of hole to get out of with a terrible start at the plate. A few signs of power but not enough.

Dozier is losing millions with a bad first half. So much for him signing a big deal somewhere else and the Twins getting something for him if he is traded.

The new pitchers Odorizzi and Lynn haven't been great. Gibson has been better than expected but too bad he cant get any run support he has pitched well all year. I like Berrios, good young pitcher still making improvement. Its too bad Santana hasn't been able to get back up and contribute yet.

I hope they don't make any foolish decisions and trade and try to make a run. They don't have a chance at the wild card and even though Cleveland isn't completely dominating I don't see the Twins overtaking them in the division.

Whatever trades they might make won’t be to make a run. It’s going to be to rebuild. I guess there’s still some interest in Dozier from a couple teams, but otherwise, we don’t have much trade value in anyone. I’m just still hoping we finish .500.

What a dam joke. Sanos fat, Palancos a druggy. Insert Escobar. What does he do with last half of last year and first half of this year. Deserve to be an all star thats what. How do we reward him? Big contract that he deserves. Hell no. Dump his one-just-like-silly-me. F off Twins I'm over this B.S. If only he was a home town boy we could have broke the bank.

It’s all part of the game. I’m actually surprised what they got for Escobar.

Word is Sano and dropped some weight while he was sent down. Hope he can contribute something other than strike outs at the plate when he comes back.

Lame, I just said the other night that he was one of the reasons I still watch.

Let's get rid of one of our only clutch players.

I'm not a Mauer hater, but Joe has never been clutch.

In fairness the Twins had over 100 games to prove they were relevant. If anything it’s good to see mediocrity isn’t tolerated anymore.

Dozier: "It sucks when you put together a good team, and you're right there, can taste it, still a little ways to go and all of a sudden this happens. I don't know a better word than disappointing. I'm just a firm believer in 162 games. Just a sucky all-around day."

Maybe if he shows up the first half they don’t become sellers! I get others on the team stunk but being frustrated by the front office blowing the team up because you and others played poorly is not taking responsibility for your part in the process.

Why would anyone be surprised. This is embedded in the twins DNA.

The team hasn't been relevant in nearly 3 decades and it doesn't appear that it will change in the future.

They haven't won a World Series in almost 27 years. As for relevant, they've won a bunch of Division titles as well as made the playoffs last year.

My definition of relevant is contending for a World Series and making the playoffs.

In any given season, when it appears that isn't what is happening, I agree, they are not relevant. Your despair at relevancy is dramatized a wee bit with the almost 3 decades qualifier?

Could be that I'm just jaded but even back then they all but gutted the team after winning the world series.

In the 27 years how many times were they a legitimate threat to even get to the series let alone win it?

Anyways, it's pretty clear the management cares more about the bottom line than actually winning. They really don't deserve the great fans and great stadium they were given.

For sure, they haven't made any deep runs in the playoffs.

The key is that we are with a completely new management group. They had exceptionally unexpected success last year. Right now, it appears they now, not only have a top heavy farm system in the minors but have depth as well.

I will give them a couple years to start threatening deep runs in the playoffs.

    • The steep sides on shore continue and drops off pretty fast.  A good peecentage of the pond is 8-10.  I saw one spot that was 11 foot.     The neighbor says it has springs and it took a bit longer to get walkable ice than it should have considering the size.  I had been out on a couple smaller metro lakes last winter, figured it had to have been frozen pretty good.  Two steps on the pond and fell right through. It didn't seem to suffer from any winterkill last winter.  It doesn't get a lot of weeds.     Still working on a fish survey.  I can confirm that there are big goldfish and bullheads.  I have seen some pretty good size swirls around dusk making me wonder if there aren't a few bass in there.
    • How deep is it?  May be they would care if you drop a few bass and sunnies in it?  😉
    • There are other houses on the pond, nobody has a dock though.  I don't think my neighbors would care, I kinda ran it by the guy on one side.  Because the county plat map has the pond divvied up between 8 different properties on the street, I would think that technically taking a kayak around the pond would be trespassing.  Nobody has complained though and during the winter there were skaters and people running their dogs all over it and nobody asked me for permission.  Not that I care at all.   I don't need a Hatfield / McCoy problem with the neighbors, but at the same time it's my property.  If I had a McMansion on Crystal Lake in Bville nobody could or would complain about me putting a dock out.
    • For those that knew him.     Great Outdoors (Jim Maki) has passed away. From the various stories heard it seems he died suddenly on his boat dock. It sounds that he was just getting ready to go fishing.               Below is the info found in the Ely Echo.  Jim will be dearly missed among his friends. He had just recently closed the sale of his bait shop and was relieved to find he now some more time to do more fishing and other things.                                    THE ELY ECHO  Submitted by admin1 on Sun, 07/07/2019 - 18:47  James Robert Maki of Ely, 70, died on July 6, at his home on Burntside Lake. He was where he loved to be, doing what he loved, fishing.  Born on August 24, 1948 in Ely Minnesota, Jim was the son of Luella (Erickson) Maki and Robert William (Ropey) Maki. After graduating from Ely High School, Jim joined the Army serving from September 1967 until December 1970. He was in the 173rd Airborne Division, the 41st Battalion, working as an MP. He sustained injuries in Vietnam.  Returning to Ely after his military commitment, he married Rebecca (Becky) Richards on February 5, 1972. He and Becky raised their two children, Krista and Steven, at their home on Burntside Lake. Jim worked at US Steel’s Minntac Plant in Mountain Iron from1971 to 1975 and as a millwright for Inland Steel at the Minorca Plant in Virginia from 1976 until 2003, when he retired. Jim was a member of Steel Workers Local #1938 and Local #6115. Jim also owned and operated the Great Outdoors Bait and Tackle Shop onSheridan Street from 1985 until 2019.  An avid outdoorsman, Jim enjoyed hunting and fishing. In his younger years, he trapped his own bait, and went ricing with his wife and in-laws. He loved the Ely area and was the unofficial ‘mayor’ of Burntside Lake, being the voice of authority regarding fishing and ice conditions.  Jim, who was affectionately known as ‘Jaws’, had the gift of gab and was always up for conversation. He had a story about anybody you could name, fishing advice to share, and was willing to express his political opinion whether you asked or not. He could becleverly funny, entertaining his audiences with humorous tales from his extensive knowledge of Ely’s colorful past.  Above all, Jim was known for his heartfelt concern and interest in people. He devoted many hours coaching youth hockey and was always available to provide support for his friends, family, and even people he just met.  Jim was preceded in death by his parents and his wife Becky. He is survived by his daughter Krista (Shawn) Zurn and son Steven (Katie) Maki and grandchildren Cas Grant, Ayden Maki and Kylee Maki. He is also survived by his loving companion of 20 years, CeliaDomich.  A gathering to remember Jim will be held on July 27 at the Longbranch in Winton from noon to 3 p.m.
    • Is this any other folks with houses on the pond or do you have the whole thing?  Not sure if they would complain or not if there are?
    • The crib idea is a bit more than I am looking for.  I just want a 4' x 8' dock section on a little pond.  Trying to keep this around $500.   It is a curious point though.  The pond doesn't even show up as water on some maps even though it's been there forever.  Aerial photographs from the 40s show it in the middle of a cornfield.  The county plat map shows it as water and it shows I own a slice of it across to the other side, as opposed to the normal deal where your property line ends at the water.    Of course for property tax purposes, it's considered lakeshore.
    • We recently embarked on a paddling, fishing and camping adventure on the Saint Croix River.. We put the Kayaks in at Interstate Park (MN) and our take out point was Marine on St. Croix (16.1 miles downstream). In between those launches we explored the river, back waters, caught multiple different species of fish, camped one night at a primitive site, got rained on and had a blast! I can't wait to get back out on that stretch of river. This video captures a good portion of our adventure.
    • It didn’t sound like his pond was much of a “waterway” but I get your point.  There are actual dock guidelines/rules published by the DNR that should be referenced.  I’m pretty confident he’d be OK.
    • Nice win last night! That triple play really picked them up. Thought Rogers was going to let another 1 slip away & then he found his curve. Hope they can keep knocking them out of the park.
    • I wonder if down here in the cities, if you would have to get a permit to put in a crib dock since it more of a permanent structure in a water way?
