We could be riding the nsst

Recommended Posts

Looks like its about time to put the sleds to bed. Might be a couple places you could put on a couple miles but is got to be getting thin and any traffic this weekend will probably take care of it. And if we happen to get any wet sloppy snow they probably wont be able to groom it anyway. At least I set a new record this year and got about 700+ miles on. Only took me 3 years to break in the new sled.

I'm thinking about the same. Once I saw the guy on his Harley heading up 35W at 6:30am in 36 degree weather when I was going Ice fishing. I knew it was getting close. Glad I got the grandkids out in the sleigh last weekend for a few hours in before the end. :)

I watched a few boats launch from Two Harbors this morning ,,, Had to break thru skim ice to the end of the breakwall but they are out on open water fishing ,,, With all the sunshine we have gotten up here the NSST and the Taconite are rather dirty on the open south facing slopes,,,, My riding season is over with just about 1,000 miles on the sled for the season ,,,, Now to concentrate on those dang salmon out on superior

I think about the only place a person could get some decent riding in after this next weekend would be LOW. They had quite a bit of snow up there and with cool nights they will probably be able to groom for a while yet.

Done with trail riding but plenty of snow on the lakes up here so I'm leaving one sled ready for late ice crappies.  Pulled the reeds on the Renegade to inspect and clean, then ended up ordering up a set of Boyesen rage cages.

Do you have to re-jet for those as well?

Fuel injected so no.  If it were carbed they'd come off and be cleaned too.  The throttle bodies were cleaned though.  The exhaust valves were cleaned earlier.  Got to like Amazon for prices and vendors that ship right away.   Reeds are in then noticed when filling with antifreeze my coolant cap didn't fit. The neck warped from heat off the muffler.   I'll have to true that up and probably put in a heat deflector.  Then stabil in the tank and into the enclosed trailer for season.

Thought I'd share the fix on the coolant tank for the Rev.

15/16 socket is the correct size for the inside dia of the coolant tank neck.

Warm the tank neck with heat gun and the heat the socket hot enough to not melt the plastic tank neck, insert the socket into the tank neck.

Use a band clamp close the the size of the opening of the filler neck and tighten and let cool.

This reformed the coolant tank neck and the coolant cap fit perfectly.

Sounds good. Now whats the fix to keep it from happening again? some kind of heat shield?

Was up on the north shore last few days. Silver bay area has-pretty much no snow and trails are like they look in summer. Got not even a dusting up there when the rest of the state got a foot plus. Drive 4 hours south and theres 14 inches on the ground had to go for a rip around the yard.

    • So Mike, you saying there both the class clowns!!
    • hummingbirds are gone fron Itasca county, but still have them here in cold spring, stearns county. pretty sure there slowly heading south.   still had loons on each of the 3 lakes we fished.
    • It's been around for at least 30 years.....
    • Yeah, that is awesome!  I hope the guy chokes down his humble pie and realizes what a gift you and your son are willing to give him!
    • Never heard of the stuff.  English Muffin....Toasting Bread?  I was wondering if you really made French toast with round English muffins? 😵
    • just saw it yesterday in Alex..darn good stuff too!!!
    • that is so great!!!!!  You folks are raising a good son!!!!
    • Well I couldn’t make it over there yesterday, so my son went over today after school to tell her thank you but he’s going to take his stand down. After a 30 mins conversation with her, he now gained bow hunting, shotgun hunting and turkey season next spring. She told him that he has permission as does the other gentleman and don’t worry about it. This is where it gets good. Cole went out to his stand and guess who shows up asking what he’s doing. The other “kid”. Asking why he is back out there, Cole explained to him that he talked with the land owner and sees no reason why they both can’t be out there. The guy stormed off. So I called him a while ago.....yes the first 15 mins were not some of my best moments, but I finally was able to get to the bottom of his problem. He’s never shot a deer, he’s never shot anything and only took up hunting 3 years ago. Whoever has been “coaching” him has given him some very bad information. Told him things that I’ve never even heard of. So I told him not only will we help set you up, but we will move your stands into good spots, I will hang a double set if wanted and either myself or my son would be glad to sit with you and help walk you through the first time, video tape it and even offered to let him come sit in my ground blind on my field and get him a shot a doe any night. We are all meeting tomorrow night so i can go over some maps with him and show him where I would put my stands at if I were him. I told Him instead of running my son off who could a complete asset to him, learn from him. He might be only 15 but he’s a wealth of knowledge and loves everything about hunting, not just the killing part. He just wants to be in the woods and help others. Looks like a bad situation may turn into a good one.  I hope at some point this fall I can post a picture of my son guiding this gentleman to his first archery deer.
    • Does anyone know of a place in the Brainerd Lakes area where you can rent a wheelhouse that you're able to tow yourself? I'm not referring to renting through a resort or guide, where you're restricted to the lake and spot they put the house on. I'm looking for one I can haul around.
