After all of the deer hunters leave the woods I like to get out and find and harvest chaga! Has anyone had any experiences with this amazing fungus? I've got a friend that is drinking this a few times a day and the tumor on his lungs has shrunk by 75%. No other drugs, just chaga, labrador tea, and some sort of medicine called bear root.

Chaga is supposed to be one heck of medicine, or one heck of a healthy tea to drink. I've been picking it the last couple of years, and still haven't drank any lol. I just give it away to friends and family who request it. Anyone have any good preservation and preparation methods?

I'm curious about preservation, too. Where I deer hunt it is LOADED with chaga, but by the spray paint on the trees it looks like my whole area is getting logged off this year. Would like to harvest this chaga before it goes to waste...

Ok, I'll give what I've learned. Don't pick chaga from a dead tree, there is a relationship chaga and the tree have while the tree is alive, there are healing characteristics that the fungus have while the tree is alive that don't accompany the tree when it is dead. I've heard from western science folks that while there is some brown inside the chaga it is still usable.

Not sure, but I bet you tube could tell you. How far north in Minnesota is it found? I have some I got in the mail from Alaska, paid dearly for it too.

I have some on my land by willow river. I plan to harvest some this year and make the tea. I have heard really good things about chaga.

After using tea made from chaga for awhile, I am not sure I have realized any positive health benifits. I plan to keep using the chaga tea through out the winter. I would also like to try a chaga tenture. If anyone has any tips or advice please share.

Been sick at all since starting to use it?  Friends of mine have been using it for a few years religiously for one reason or another.  They keep a jug of it next to the coffee pot.

Nope can't say I have been sick. I visit my parents in the old folks home so maybe that will be a good test. I may need to find another chunk of two to last me the winter. I kinda enjoy being in the woods and looking for it.

    • After starting out the winter with a lack of snow February is making up for it. Earlier in the week the southern half of the state received 4 to 6 inches of snow and in the last couple of days the north and northwest received from 4 to 8 inches of snow.Snowmobile trails are now open in most, but not all, counties across the state with conditions rated as good or excellent in many counties on the Wisconsin Department of Tourism's Snow Conditions Report (exit DNR). Many state properties were regrooming cross-country ski trails and ski trail conditions ranged from good to excellent. Some freezing rain fell in the south after the snow, resulting in some icy conditions in some locations. Temperatures are expected to warm this weekend, especially in the south where more rain is also in the forecast, while the north is expected to get more snow. With all the recent snow, conditions should be excellent for the American Birkebeiner Ski Race this weekend in the Hayward-Cable area. It is the largest ski race in North America and attracts thousands of skiers from all over the country and world -- skiers from 49 states and 36 countries participated in 2018 -- and draws tens of thousands of spectators to the area. .
    • I doubt it but you can call the DNR and ask. You can pull up the regs on a smart phone anyway.
    • ......The 6 packages from the first round are long-gone, so I am brining up another batch. Ended up buying an entire case of butts (@ $1.18 per #) from Sams. I am going to do 3 butts - one with High Mtn buckboard seasoning and two with another dry brine consisting of Tenderquick, brown sugar, garlic salt, and black pepper. I always like getting to the raw ingredients of spices versus relying on someones "magic rub". If it goes badly I will revert back to the HM cure. As an added note, I also picked up a $20 loin that I put HM cure on to experiment with some Canadian bacon.... Will check back in 10 days or so!
    • if thats the case i hope there printing water proof versions!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i cant keep mine nice and tidy in the cab of my truck!!!!!!!
    • Have not heard this. Why just a boat? It needs to be in some peoples buckets to so when their 500 fish over their limit they can't say I no know, I no know? 🤷‍♂️
    • Got mine yesterday during the snow.  I was informed that there is a new rule requiring the MN Fishing Regulations be carried on your boat and that this new rule is not documented in the Regs.  Anyone know if this is fact or just a kindly recommendation?
    • Mike is as good as it gets, especially if you're talking archery.

    • Coyle for Donato and a 5th, not as bad as nino for rask because at least donato has some potential to be a better goal scorer but overall yikes, not thrilled with Fentons bigger trades so far, the smaller ones have been good but that is the problem. Either way all signs point toward a rebuild of some kind.
    • It's a prairie zone.  We're right on the northern edge of the hills, Just north of I90 near Sturgis.
