Outdoor News Wolf Update

O.T.C.

Reading the outdoor news last night, I was wondering how this "wolf population" survey is handled ? If it's an aerial survey in Winter  then why report the finding yesterday ? Are they flying over OTC, Wadena, Morrison, Douglas, Todd, and now I'm even hearing about wolves surfacing in Wilkin and Clay counties.  They need to explain more I think on how they do this and are they including the wolves outside of "their primary range" which needs to be way expanded by the way. I don't believe their estimate really, unless they provide their flying routes and counties checked. Why is or are wolves such a hush hush don't talk about em topic ? It's time for some mention about Wadena, Ottertail, Todd, Morrison, Douglas counties and their wolf situations. Are they even including those counties and wolf packs that are there in this survey of the population estimate ? All we hear about is wolves in the Northeast. Can they guesstimate how many packs and or wolves are living in Ottertail County ? Can they break down by county a little better I know they travel like crazy but am just wondering in general because there's such little explanation of where these fly overs are happening because they need to include many more counties during these flights. Time for a new wolf map and lets see in 2016 where these packs are established and I'd like to see an estimate of wolf numbers south of US HWY 10. Time to hopefully get a deer before the wolves do, I'm outta here.

I'd pick up the phone and call the appropriate people in DNR. Might take a couple of calls to get to the right person but usually they will be happy to talk with you. Or they SHOULD be. If they are not....call your local legislator and ask him for help.

Often a balky, rude or uncooperative bureaucrat becomes much more talkative after a call from a legislator.

Just a couple ideas.

I think Dan Stark is the large carnivore specialist with the DNR.  He should be able to answer your questions.  I talked to him after my wolf hunt and he was very helpful.

Wolves are back and it's time to just accept that fact.  If it was up to the DNR we'd be hunting them right now.  But,  ever since the lawsuit, it's not.  Your time would be best spent writing letters and making calls to get them removed from the endangered species list rather than questioning the DNR.
