Found my 1st hen of the year!

Recommended Posts

Nice!  Hens just started this week by me.  I checked my trees last Sunday - no hens.  I checked them again yesterday and two (fist sized) hens are there.  It happens that quick.  I'm keeping my eye on them...will be interesting to track how fast they grow.  The size you show in your pic is about perfect and I'll try to harvest mine when they reach similar size.  I'm guessing a full week of growth should do it - but we'll see.  I'd rather harvest too soon vs. too late!

Nice find.  I've been out on some long-mile hikes in search of new trumpet spots, and while the black gold has been hard to find, the oaky chickens and hens have started popping for sure. A few other edibles around, but it seems like the transition from summer to fall has started to set in, in spite of the warm weather.  Seeing lots of old chants, a few still-good lobsters, a few edible russalas and hydnelum, a few hericium...but lots of chickens and hens. :)

Ate hedgies for the first time this year, thought they were really earthy. Heard others saying they like them, me, not so much. What you guys say?

Will be shroomin and fishing all next wèek.....can't wait!

The ones I found this year were past their prime, and it agree they were pretty "earthy."  I found some fresher ones a couple of years ago and they were really good.
