JBMasterAngler
Gave the vermillion river a try for the 1st time ever today. I stopped at several access points along county road 66, didn't bother checking out rambling river park. I don't know whether it was high or low, or what, but it was running fairly muddy. The brush and prairie grass was pretty thick, and tough to get through. Didn't catch anything, but lost what would have easily been the biggest brown trout I've ever caught! Was casting a minnow rap when he casually hit the lure, and I got a terrible hook set on him. Lost him after just a few seconds. Looked to be about 24 inches or so. Will definitely give this place another try, but might be better earlier in the season before the brush gets too thick. Worked up quite a sweat hiking through all that stuff in hip boots. Does anyone know if the rainbows the DNR stock stick around the rambling river park area and get fished out quickly, or do they roam around downstream and holdover at all? DrJuice1980
They travel the system, even go up into some smaller creeks in the Lakeville. The Browns are much more sensitive to water temps and I heard a while back that the Browns are on their way out due to the distribution of cold ground water. Not sure if its true or not but it explains the decline in quality Browns. Get back out there soon!
