Turkey call question

Ryan got a shot at a Jake last night. Two jakes popped out with a hen and we heard one making a cluck-like sound. It looked like the jakes were making the cluck and not the hen. The cluck seemed like it had a little more pop to it and sounded different then we were used to.

Was it a cluck? Can jakes cluck? What kind of call was that from a jake?

Alarm putt. Similar to a deer blowing at you. Both hens and toms do this. When you hear that, you've been had.

Trust me, it won't be the last time you hear it.

Thanks DonBo- that's got to be it. It did it a few seconds after it clearly caught movement or noise in the blind (with the crew we had in the blind there was plenty of both). There also wasn't a breath of wind and that made it even tougher. We were definitely busted. Thanks! I learned something today!!!

Jakes cluck as well, I've though I've had hens coming when they turned out to have been jakes.
