suzuki 70 hp tiller questions

Recommended Posts

I just bought a 70 Suzuki 4 stroke tiller and was looking for some info regarding idle speeds . My motor idles at 680 rpms and this is to fast for trolling even in reverse . The motor has a troll button that will adjust the rpms but will only drop 10 or so , it will increase the rpms but that is not what I need .The dealer has no experience with them so is of no help. I was under the impression that the troll button should drop the idle speed significantly the same way it worked on my Yamaha.

Any insight would be appreciated.

Also any thoughts on the back trolling plates that flip down in behind the prop ?

What year is the motor? I know in 2012 they revised the handle with the "troll" mode, but from what I read it only increases the RPM from idle, not decrease. So the idle speed appears to be the lowest it will go. At least from what I can find.

the motor is 2011,just purchased last month never been used . They had to order in the tiller handle so I assume it is the new version .

The rpm's may sound correct, call Frankies in Chisago. Best suzuki dealers I have worked with.

I have had two Suzukis a 60 for 680 Ranger & now a 90 for the 690. If Feeling your moving to fast use a small drift sock. I have two sizes a 30" & a 54" works great for windy days on Mille Lacs. Also check your prop pitch. th
