bowhunternw
I am looking at an old Polaris atv with no registration card or title. What are the steps to getting it registered? Is it worth the hassle.
Dave S
If it's an early, and I mean early model Polaris, I believe no registration is required (25 years or older). Otherwise registration is required.Local DMV can give you specifics on what you need. You'd be surprised how requirements change based on different offices and who's working any particular day. eyehunter
Minnesota does not issue titles for atv's. therefore one is not required to register it.
fivebucks
True you do not need a title but you do need to register ATV's and get the DNR license. Here is link: http://dnr.state.mn.us/licenses/ohv/index.html
eyehunter
His question was how hard it would be to get it registered without a title or other paperwork. The answer is he does not need a title or paper work, simply go to the county registrar's office and tell them that you bought a used atv from a private party, pay the $45 for the 3 year sticker and put it on the license plate. He never stated that he wouldn't get it registered.
bowhunternw
Well apparently if the registered owner just lost the registration card, then all that is needed is a bill of sale from them. This particular one has been passed around a few times without being registered so I think I am out.
Dave
Son's friend just went through this with a snowmobile. I think he just brought in a bill of sale. Seller didn't even register from the previous owner. DMV looked it up and registered it for him.One DMV station requested a bill of sale for an ATV I had unregistered for many years. Went to the other DMV and she didn't request one.

They can look it up and tell you if it's registered in MN. They can not give you the owner on record's name, but they can tell you if it's registered. If the vehicle doesn't show up in the system, you register it under your name. Cost me $52 the other day.If it does show up in the system, you gotta figure out who had it registered and try to get ahold of him to get a Bill of Sale. Otherwise there's no way to prove you attained the vehicle legally from the owner on record.
