Minn Kota electrical problem

I had a fuse blow in my boat wiring and traced it to the trolling motor. with the motor totally disconnected I took an ohm meter to it and found resistance between the Pos. and Neg. cables. has anyone else ever had this problem and know of a fix?

How freely does the propeller shaft turn? You may have a grounded out motor due to corrosion. I have replaced the entire motor assembly on my unit and friend had his motor rebuilt due to the seals leaking and resulting in corrosion of the what-nots, the armature and brushes.

I would check to see if the motor turns easy. pop the top and check the wire connections going down the shaft. Any water in the shaft? having resistance between the positive and negative is a good thing.

If you put a meter across the motor you would have resistance.

Not sure what model you have, but in the past I had fuses on my minnkota motors blow or when they run hot they just plain fail.

Currently most guys have gone to the breaker sold by Minkota.

If the fuse is all black it indicates a hard blow, witch would lead you to think you may have issues.

If it were me I'd toss a fuse in it and run it, see what happens

But you wont be sorry to move onto the breaker when you figure this out
