8-Ball
Hi All- I know hp rating is posted on most boats.. but I don't have that info in front of me right now. Do you guys think a 35 hp is too much for a 14 ft deep v Sylvan (tiller). Thanks in advance... 8-Ball
highlife4me
Most 14' deep v's are rated for a 35 hp. I would bet your Sylvan is the same.
gunner55
I had a 20 hp on a 14' Mirrocraft years ago.Had to shift some weight forward to get that to work very well with only 1 in the boat.
elusivecrappiecatcher
my 14ft Lund is rated for a 35. It was my grandpas boat and they had a 35 Johnson on it. That thing screamed across a lake!I run a 25 Mariner on it now for duck hunting and river fishing. Still runs good 28-29mph with the 25. Raider4ever
Check the yellow plate in your boat. I'm guessing it will tell you.
8-Ball
Thanks for replies... I dont have the boat yet. I am looking at it next week. Guy who is selling it cant read the plate for HP rating. It sounds like I should prob stick w 25 HP or less...
delcecchi
Just out of curiousity, since Sylvan apparently only make pontoons nowadays, I went to Lund site. Their 14 foot, plain aluminum boats seem to be 25hp rated except for the SSV which is 35 .
8-Ball
Del- yep I saw that as well...
mrpike1973
I have a 14 foot Smoker Craft rated for 35 hp. I changed motors wanted a 25hp but the mechanics said with 4 strokes there so heavy you actually lose power from to heavy. went with a 20 hp which was only 10# heavier glad I did it goes very fast with a good hole shot. leechlake
I have a 16 foot lund with 25 Yamaha. It's electric start with battery in the back. It really drives horrible if I'm in it alone bordering on dangerous. I put a few sandbags up front to control it if I'm fishing alone. I'd stick with a 15 on a 14' boat. Raider4ever
My bad. Did not thoroughly read the OP. Sorry for sounding like a Richard.
