SkunkedAgain
Has anyone installed a CeilingLink grid system? I'm about to order it but wanted to see if there are tips or warnings about ordering/installing it. This is for finishing off my basement renovation: 7ft ceilings with access needed to various spots for electrical and plumbing.
IA4PATS
I used it in my basement 3 or 4 years ago and still don't have any complaints. It was easy to use and install. I haven't had any fall down or bow or anything like that. Not sure the exact details, but I think I ordered too little and they shipped me the second order with charging me the shipping. It was something like that, but they helped me out in someway. I would use them again.
BoxMN
That looks like nice solution for my short basement as well!
Cheetah
I have it installed in the basement of the house I just bought. It is great for low ceilings, but a complete pain in the you know what to take apart if you have to get behind it to do any work. I had to run some network cable the length of my basement and ended up damaging a few of the tiles. Took way longer than it should have... I suppose easier than if it was sheet rocked though. SkunkedAgain
Thanks guys. I ordered it and everything was here in 2 days for $20 shipping. Not bad. It is surprisingly easy to set this up.
BoxMN
Hey Skunked, can you give us a ballpark per sq. foot pricing on it with tiles? I know it varies, but just wondering for brainstorming costs-sakes. Thanks!
SkunkedAgain
Sure. First of all, CeilingLink has a calculator on their HSOforum with prices so you can just toss in your room length & width to get an estimate. CeilingLink cost about $560 for a 15x40 basement which comes out to just under $1psf. Ceiling tile ranges from $1psf to a couple bucks. I got a 3/4" thick tile from USG with a higher sound rating. It cost around $750 so $1.25psf. Add in some miscellaneous costs such as drywall screws, I needed a 200-tooth blade for my miter, and any other misc tools you might need. So I would plan for $2-3psf for everything unless you plan on getting fancy tiles.
BoxMN
Thanks much! I will check their site but your info is great. Was looking in the basement last night and it would work great. Thanks again for info!
SkunkedAgain
Here is a progress photo from yesterday morning. I have no complaints so far and Mrs. SkunkedAgain likes the way it looks. Even though CeilingLink hugs the ceiling, one surely notices the loss of head room with 7ft ceilings. The space between the rafters gave the place a roomier look.
