bltbowhunter
I'm going to make 3 casting rods and 1 spinning rod for a few of us in our group that are going to Canada to chase pike. My dad wants the spinning rod and wants to be able to use it down in Florida for fishing on the beach as well. When we went to Canada a few years ago, the fish that we caught were between 30 and 42". Does anyone have any suggestions on blanks that they've used for the same application? 7-7.5' is the length that everyone wants. Last time I went I used a 7' Temple Fork Rod that was Extra Heavy. 12-25 lb. line weight and 1/2 to 2 oz. lure weight. It seemed to work well for me. Maybe a tad on the heavy side, but it was nice to have that extra beef when hooked in to the 40 inchers.

upnorth
When choosing a blank, I normally focus in on line weight, lure weight, and desired action. What performs well as a live bait rig, may not perform as well for throwing heavy lures all day.
delcecchi
To be perfectly honest, if you are fishing reasonably open water regular type rods will work, even to land muskys. My casting rods are like 6.5 to 7 foot mh or h action with a Abu C3 or equivilent. Spinning rods are similar rated with a 35 or 40 size reel, any one of several brands. As someone said, big this is will it throw or pull what you plan on using for lures. Musky tackle is so heavy, not to be able to land the musky, but to throw those huge baits. People land big muskies on 6 lb test and spinning reels with M action rods when the musky decides to eat their minnow when walleye fishing. Now if you are back in heavy timber and need to winch them out or are in heavy current like the catfishermen
