Chevy 4x4 problem

2004 Chevy 2500 6.0gas 145,000 miles

4x4 quit last weekend out on Red Lake.

Switch buttons all light up right, no lingering blinking or random switching by itself.

No 'service 4x4' message.

When shifted into 4x4 low, the drive wheels are geared down, but no front drive, I can tell when slowly moving.

When pushing buttons, there is movement in the actuator and the transfer case motor.

If your sure the transfer case is working than I would have to suspect the front axle actuator or possibly bigger issues. If the front axle actuator does not engage it should flag a 4x4 error. Although it is possible that it thinks it is engaging and really is not.

I have exhausted my ideas, appointment at local garage on Monday morning.

Garage called, first words were "bad news"....

Some bearing went out, wore a hole in housing, oil all leaked out, and basically cooked the transfer case.

Rebuilt one going in tomorrow.

Same thing happened to my 02 chevy, chevy has know about this problem for years
