We fished the Ear Falls area during the first week of June. Spent the whole week fishing Sawmill Bay with great success. The water warmed up quickly and was in the low-mid 60s throughout the week. The weather was perfect with minimal rain and temps in the 70s. Water levels are higher than normal. Our group of three caught 848 fish during the week, mostly walleyes. Biggest eye was 27 inches and biggest northern was 37 inches. Also caught more perch this year than the previous 10 years combined. Approximately 17.5% of our walleyes were over 20 inches. Overall, we caught more fish than usual, but size was down slightly. All presentations seemed to work: jigging, casting, bobber, trolling cranks, crawler harnesses, etc. We also brought up our LX-5, which was cool to see the the fish chasing baits off the bottom. Minnows, worms, and leeches were all effective. Got a last minute tip to bring up beef heart and cut into strips like a leech or worm. It worked! All fish caught in under 8 feet of water. Weather was dump-ola, but fishing was great. Water temps were down about 10ºF from last year same time. Fish were migrating, never concentrated in the same place for too long. A spot would be red-hot for a few hours, then shut off. We'd move to similar structure nearby, and there they were, stacked up again. Once we established that pattern after day one, we were able to just kind of follow the fish around.

Apparently a main-lake bay that we didn't fish was producing some unbelievable size. Several 28"+ fish were brought back to the cleaning house. Sickening to see the First Nation guides carving up 30" walleyes with yellowish-orange meat, but whatchya gonna do.

Water is high, it came up 7 inches in 4 days

No major bug hatch

Fishing out of Lost Lake area right now. Fishing has been tough with inconsistent bite. Weather has not helped much. Fish have not been aggressive and don't seemed to be schooled up as usual. Have caught fish but the good bite has been restricted to a few hours per day depending on the wind and weather. Headed up the Lake today to the Canoe area. We were up there on Monday and did well for an hour or two once we found them. Returned to the same spot after lunch and no fish! Our group of six has about 400 fish since Sunday but by far the worse fishing we have had in over ten years.

Just got off the water after a day of fishing in the Canoe area. Right off the bat we ran into a hot spot in six to eight feet of water and picked up a good 12 to 15 in the 17" to 22" range pitching jigs. Looked like a good day a coming. Wrong! It was all over in 30 minutes. Returned to the same spot three hours later and no fish. Where we found fish two days ago there were none. Struggled the rest of the day and ended up with a total of 92 for our group of six. Everywhere from 6 to 22 feet in depth.

We fished a different part of the lake weekend before last, and the fish were definitely on the move. A spot would be red hot, then we'd catch a pike or two, and then pike only. We figured out that if we just moved to a structure nearby similar to the one that just shut-off, the walleyes would be there for a while. Then they'd move again.

We spent the weekend just following them around. Once we established that pattern, it was pretty easy. Catching fish off this rock-face in 3-11 feet, and then suddenly they're gone? Move to a nearby rock-face or other structure that would hold fish, and there they were, stacked up just like they were in the last spot.

We just got back and as others mentioned as had to keep moving, the fishing was good but not great the biggest was 28" and lots of slot fish. High water obviously.

Yes it was a slow bite for our group of six as well last week, although things started to pick up a bit later in the week particularly in the early mornings. Seemed like our best presentation was a bare hook with a 1-1/2" piece of worm. If you are a worm fisherman, try out the new Slow Death or Re-Volve hooks.

All in all, by our numbers, it was the worse week of fishing we have had in 15 years but when I tell people we only caught 800 fish, they don't exactly feel sorry for us.

I'm coming up to Lac Seul in late July/early August, as part of a guided trip. It'll be my first time fishing in Canada. What would you all recommend I use for walleye, pike, and muskies?

I like to follow the reports from this lodge. He gives an up date once a week. The size of the Northern the guy is holding on the side of the report is just crazy.

I just got back on Monday. Fishing was awesome! Chart, black/orange, or firetiger colored jigs worked awesome for us with a minnow. Leeches were OK at best. Got a lot of little sauger with leeches for some reason.

We fished mostly in about 15ft, but a couple of days the fish went deep and we were in 35-40ft. The fish are on the summer spots. Water temps were 64-67 degrees.

Also watch out for floating debris. lots of big logs and trees floating around, and the water is high but seemed to be going down each day just alittle bit.

Just got back from fishing in the Mahkwa area last Friday night. We were up there for the week and had a very good trip as usual. Weather cooperated with only a light rain on Monday although there was a good breeze. We got fishing by noon and found some hungry Vaughan Lake walleyes had supper caught by 2 and caught an released the rest of the afternoon a good number of fish orange and a minnow seemed best. Tues the wind died down but did not completely quit. We ran and fished on Bray Lake and had some success here 2-25" walleyes ended up being the biggest of the trip and some other mixed in little ones. Fishing wasn't bad but could have been better here. So we ran over to wolf narrows and found one point here that had a good holding of fish with some nice fish mixed in and spent the rest of the day fishing here. Chart. yellow and crawler were the ticket here. Wed we ran into Canoe Lake to a spot fished a few years back. There is a small rock pile that has a good weed bed to the side of it. Ended up dragging several nice slots and overs out of the weeds. Weather was awesome Wed. Ended up leaving Canoe and stopping by Eagle island where were caught fish again not a lot but we kept busy. Ended back up at Wolf narrows the hot little point from the day before was not more wind had change direction and seemed like the fish had moved one. Thursday we headed back into Vaughan and had a fish full day again lots of slots and over fish here but no hawgs did catch one 36" pike biggest of the trip but weren't targeting them either. Found another spot with good weed beds and worked the edge of that and sometime even into the weeds and that seemed to be where the aggressive fish were choosing to hide. Friday morning we did a repeat of the previous day and Vaughan and caught the rest of our limit of fish and headed for home. Colors of jigs we did best on would have been probably Chart. yellow, then orange, then white. Depending on the time of day certain baits were better than other but we used minnows, leeches, crawlers, and gulp and caught good number on all. We'd fish all three guys in the boat with something different at the start of the day and the switch as one appeared to be more dominate over the others. I love fishing gulp when they want it they will smack the heck out of that bait. All and all great trip made next year reservation already before we left.
