Glacier National Park Area and Trout Fishing

Recommended Posts

I am looking for a few pointers on fishing trout in some of the lakes between Whitefish and Eureka MT. We have a cabin rented end of June through the 1st week of July. There are a couple of good trout lakes within walking distance.

I don't own a flyrod so mainly would be casting clear float with fly and casting small spinners.

I've read that early morning is good. Any tips appreciated.

I dont have much advice for you but I'll give you what I can. Never fished that area before and actually trout fished very little while I was in montana. I went on one trip to some high country, wilderness lakes and the trout there weren't picky at all. Personally I had the best luck with spinners but I have never been a fly fisherman and doing it with a spinning rod and clear float was tough. I was using smaller floating flies and had a tough time battling the waves to keep slack out of my line, and also had a tough time keeping the flies afloat even with floatant. Thats probly all due to my inexperience though. Days we fished we had high blue skies and silver/bright pink spinners worked very well. And like you said, we got up early and had our best luck right away. Evenings were slower. In any case you'll have a GREAT time in absolutely gorgeous country. Have fun!!

Thanks Pfunk,

Spinners work great around here in the small streams so I assume it should work just as well out there. It's always fun trying new places. I will give the clear float a try. Who knows.
